Within one post (post 3319) . . .
we have some illustrations of the East facade of 217 with big dark horizontal stripes . . .
and other renderings with those same horizontal stripes light and shiny . . .
less distracting - which give serene unifying and awesome height thrust . . .
Contrast can be great -
but these strong black-band horizontals kill the wonderful vertical soaring effect . . . major design flaw . .
Hope the tint is the lighter of the two . .
then I'll be one happy camper on this lofty beaut . .

And height changes.

When does it become final? To say when is "said building" will be say 1,500 feet to roof? When is the last time it can be changed or modified? I think in some other thread it was mentioned spires/antennas can be any height. So my question is when does the height become "finalized" as is to say "we can't build any higher". (or lower)

1,522' to the roof is pretty much final. The spire height remains unknown.

This building has grown on me, the details are getting better and better. I really want to see the spire go over 1 wtc. Since it looks like more of an actual spire, if it has a lighting element and gets closer to 1800 ft the point of this would be amazing in the skyline.

Oh wow! I think were finally going to get the New World record back from the CN Tower!

The spire must b 300ft at the very least!

Pretty much never. There is no timeline when you say that the height can't be changed anymore. Even if the construction is well advanced, they could decide to increase the height, In that case the major constraint would be that the building was structurally calculated to have a certain height, but if they revise the calculations and determine that a height increase is possible, they can do it, and ultimately, they can also reinforce the already built structure if needed. Even is the construction of the building is finalized, they can still add a crown, for example, and increase the height of the building. (if probed structurally safe) Obviously for the contrary there isn't any type of impediment either, if building a 70 story tower, they decide to cap it at the 20th floor, because there isn't more money or whatever, they simple do it.

As for the permits, they can also be modified at any time, even with the construction ongoing, as long as the building is still conforming to the variables required by the city.

That said, once the building has obtained the final permit and the construction begins, it is unlikely for the developers to change it, but because that is already what they want to build, not because they can't do it. But as I said, if for whatever reason they change their minds during the construction, they can still do it.

In the case of this tower, most probably those 1522 ft will be the final height and won't be changed, at least not significativelly.

Me as well. To be totally honest, this building might very-well become the iconic building of NYC. Not to dismiss 1 WTC , but... given it's height and the boldness by which it is being constructed, clearly the developers of this structure were not thinking how to save a dollar. It wasn't handicapped by political or governmental interests.

I'm just glad it doesn't have an ticker underneath the cantilever.

I was thinking about how this will add to those panoramas of the fireworks display on the 4th. 432 Park looks so nice from Hunters Point. So dominating over the ESB. Nordstrom on the other hand will look epic and even Steinway. The Macy's firework display will be even more grandiose in 2020 with an amazing backdrop of supertalls.

True but by 2020 they may move back to the lower Hudson. That's the nice thing about shooting fireworks on a river. U can do it anywhere.
