If you check out the 11th Street side like right now, you can see that when they put that weird aluminum thing up they put it right over the old detailing. Someone get a shot (of the old detailing) before it's all gone!

I saw that the other day. It was pretty cool. To imagine that craftsmanship had been hidden behind that 1970s schlock all those decades . . . almost like an archaeological discovery.

Fantastic vantage point. Really shows the scope of the project. Is the white loft building on the right coming down too since this project staddles the cross street?

I wonder if they'll remove the big clunky raised planters from the Market St. sidewalks. Seems like they take up alot of room.

That white building (the former Snellenburg's Men's Annex) is being renovated and reclad. Mom's Grocery Store, their first inked tenant, is in it!

The cross street is Ludlow. It's being retained and pedestrianized, along with an entirely new pedestrian street crossing the middle of the block from Market to Chestnut.

Great to hear they are recladding this! Recladding is a great, cost-effective solution to replace ugly or obsolete exteriors of buildings that is too seldom used. Often understandably as there is disruption to non-vacating tenants in many instances, etc..but nice to see that it is feasible and will happen here.

Except that the current building is rather attractive and was in active use until the family court relocated to its new digs. The renderings of the reclad look nice, but pale in comparison to the current facade. Sadly, the facade is apparently not in good enough shape to survive renovation and it would be cost prohibitive to preserve it.

I was more speaking as a general matter. The original facade is decent. I haven't seen renderings of the proposed reclad facade. Have they been posted on this thread? If there's no choice because the current facade can't survive renovation, I guess it's a moot point. But I would hope they don't skimp on the new facade.

when you see the crater that exists now that much of the building is gone you really get a better idea for how large the old building was. Its a big deal to be getting something higher at this site- this was no place for a 2 story retail building.
