The current design of Barclays Center is beautiful! Brooklyn has suffered far too long since the departure of the Dodgers out West. Bringing the Nets to Brooklyn is the best way to kick off the 2010s. And professional basketball finally has found a new home in a borough where the sport is revered and played on the blacktop with a passion! Go Brooklyn and go Nets!

More likely just marketing and just a little payback...

In a marketing move that Nets CEO Brett Yormark described as a "defensive maneuver," the Knicks hung up a billboard of Amar'e Stoudemire near the construction site of the Nets' new arena.

The billboard - which is much smaller and lower than the Nets' billboard that overlooked the Garden - has Stoudemire posing in front of the Manhattan Bridge with "Brooklyn Represent" written underneath.

The Nets hit first and the Knicks struck back. The Nets’ reaction: Thanks.

In response to the Nets painting a mural of owners Mikhail Prokhorov and Jay-Z with "Blueprint for Greatness," on a building overlooking Madison Square Garden the day before free agency started, the Knicks unveiled a billboard in Brooklyn this week.

It’s of Amar’e Stoudemire, says "Brooklyn Represent," and hangs near the construction site of the Nets’ new arena.

Nets CEO Brett Yormark called it "a defensive move" by the Knicks, and said it will help his team.

"I’m glad to see they know where Brooklyn is," Yormark said. "Clearly, they know what’s coming."

"The more they ignite basketball in the marketplace the better it is for us. I encourage them to promote basketball in Brooklyn. We’re the ones who will benefit when we’re there in 2012."

The guy was such a gold digger. With that in mind the entire site is now cleared.

Amen.

They really need to liven up Atlantic Avenue. That place has looked like that for over a decade(minus the mall renovations). We need to have a "West Street Promenade" feel going on, in that area.

Mikhail Prokhorov Watch Your Puny Home Go Bye-Bye Now

Thursday, November 4, 2010, by Joey Arak

Quote:
While he was in Newark last week to watch his Nets get dismantled by the Miami Heat, Russian oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov stopped by West Chelsea's glorious 200 Eleventh Avenue to check out a $17.5 million condo. But he didn't only have sky garages on the mind. The endlessly fascinating Prokhorov also swung by Brooklyn to settle some old scores.

According to the NetsDaily blog, Prokhorov watched (from the roof of his Atlantic Yards partner Bruce Ratner's shopping mall, Atlantic Yards Report suspects) while crews demolished 636 Pacific Street, the building in the arena footprint that was the home of Atlantic Yards holdout Daniel Goldstein. There's even a picture of Prokhorov taking in the destruction, which in no way is the behavior of a super villain. Afterwards, Prokhorov went to Peter Luger to feast on porterhouse. Opulence: He has it.

New Jersey Nets to become Brooklyn Ballers?

http://www.netsdaily.com/2010/11/9/1...ooklyn-ballers

The Courts just ruled that the critics could "re-argue" their case, but it doesn't expect to halt construction any.

Sam Amico of FOX Sports quotes a Nets "insider" as saying the team won't be known as the Nets once they move to Brooklyn, and that "Brooklyn Ballers" is one name being "floated". Amico adds that the team will have to be called "Brooklyn". The Knicks "don't want another 'New York,' and word is, they made a stink about it." Amico adds that he prefers "Brooklyn Dodgers".

Even If the Nets had considered "Brooklyn Ballers", they didn't trademark it, which they would have had to do to secure rights to the name. As for "Brooklyn Dodgers" it is trademarked, held by the Los Angeles Dodgers. They're unlikely to give it up.
Interesting.

Hoop Dreams: Steel Erection Going Up at Ratner's Barclays Center

By Matt Chaban
November 23, 2010

Quote:
The Atlantic Yards play opened last night in Brooklyn, but the real drama is onsite at the corner of Flatbush and Atlantic. A ballet of steel beams is dancing as the arena-that-almost-wasn't gets underway. No more digging, no more demolishing—it's all up from here for the SHoP-designed Barclays Center, the future home the Brooklyn Nets.

A spokesman for developer Forest City Ratner said the project remains on schedule, meaning it should be finished by the summer of 2012, with time to spare before the start of the season.

Plans also remain in place to unveil designs for the first apartment tower early next year and to break ground on that project, which would be 50 percent affordable, by the summer. A second tower will follow six to nine months after that. Ratner is still seeking financing for the project, including the somewhat controversial EB-5 visa program, which is still awaiting federal approval.

YES YES and YES! I wish Ratner would build Miss Brooklyn before one of the two back high rises though.

We're witnessing a new signature piece of Brooklyn come alive. Much like the WTC, this has been a long time coming.

Yes. Remember, Atlantic Yards is more than just the arena.
