OK, is mid-300s cheap for Toronto or average? Because things are starting at the exact same price point in Thunder Bay and I'm getting confused now.

for houses or condos? $350,00 will get you a 550 square foot condo. Good luck getting a house for that price.

Sorry, conversion to a hotel or from a hotel? If "to a hotel", what was it before?

OK, that makes sense. You get closer to 800 square feet for that price in a condo here, and that's the average price for a new house.

Jackson Building Ottawa built in 1921 by a lumber baron (J.R. Booth) turned developer. An explosion across the street caused by a natural gas leak caused significant damage to the Jackson which closed down for a decade for a complete overhaule. The feds are considering tearing the building down and redeveloping the site.

Before explosion from Centertown blogspot;

After modernization;

The Intact Tower (2020 University) is undergoing a bit of a reclad at ground level (not the tower itself).

I don't have any pictures of what it is supposed to look like after, but I know it will be mostly glass rather than black sheet metal. It should be a big improvement at street level.

Here is what it looks like now:

This just made me smile. This building needs its love, one of the greatest skyscrapers in Canada which helped usher in the new era. Would make a great time lapse video to the tune of AC/DCs Back In Black

Canada's youngest and ugliest Legislature is still chugging along...

I don't find it as ugly as a lot of people do. It's from a different era so it won't have the neoclassical or baroque or richardson romanesque architecture that others have.

That being said I think the green glass looked better than the blue glass.

There was no green glass, though. It had alternative green panels with clear glass. *shudder*

I also don't think its ugly. Its definitely the weakest of the provinces, and looks more like a city hall, but its far from ugly. I wouldn't mind if it was more prominent in St Johns skyline. Its far better than the Territory legislatures lol.

Looking better than the territorial legislatures isn't hard at all, I wouldn't call that an endearing trait. I actually like it with the new darker features. Translucent dark glass with dark blue spandrel. Makes it look a bit less like a 1960s high school and a bit more like a government building. That said, I also don't hate it.
