Window washers' equipment falls to pavement

Monday, 9:00 p.m. Lyon St. closed

A downtown street was shut down Monday afternoon after a boom used to support window washers’ scaffolding plummeted from the roof of a building.

The boom smashed a 20th-floor window, sending broken glass flying, and knocked down a street light.

Police were called to Confederation Square at about 4 p.m. and they closed down southbound Lyon St. between Albert and Slater streets.
No one was hurt and the Ministry of Labour was called to investigate.
It's amazing that no one was hurt... a good thing that most gov't offices were closed yesterday.

I usually walk by here on my way home from work.. it happened about an hour and a half before I left yesterday.. the entire block was taped off. Didn't the same thing happen to the Crowne Plaza next door? man..

Here's a pic I took this morning of the missing window - there was also some guy still sweeping up bits of glass.
