What a cool city! I love the Costanera tower.

This is particularly stunning:

Great shots.

^ 100% Italianate/French/Spaniard-like design.
I mean, this kinda looks like some original, although seemingly slightly more recent in details.
It's very nice and comfy, I agree. The Italian influence is most obvious here.

Can't help but keep coming back to this thread, the city looks so beautiful. I love how the Spanish colonial architecture compliments the modern buildings, there's some great diversity of Architecture here.

And is it just me or are Santiago's mountains insanely tall? They look much taller than anything in the US.

Thanks so, so much!

What's more amazing is the 8.0+ quakes they've had down there and the buildings are still standing! It tells you how well built those buildings are!

I luckily left Santiago, sometime in the mid-late 80's, just one day after an 8.0 struck there. And they had another big shaker down near Concepcion since then, not too long ago, 8.0+.

Some of that street art, I swear, is better than anything you can see in a top notch museum. All for the good, as it brings some of the best art for public viewing 7/24.

There's 6-7 areas of the world with a Mediterranean climate, southern California for one, South Africa, western Australia, and Chile. And, yes, it can get quite chilly at night in winter, just like any other area of the world with this type of climate.

yes the andes is the tallest mountain range outside asia. aconcagua is tallest at 22'k. most of the tall rockies are 10'-15'k. even denali/mt mckinley in alaska is 20'k.
