Couple notes from this Sportsnet article with CPL commissioner:
  • There's an announcement coming on the 29th which is anticipated to be schedule/broadcast partner. Given that Sportsnet is publishing CPL material and that they recently lost EPL & CL it makes sense that they would fill that void left with CPL.
  • Want to have 14-16 clubs within five years. Promotion/Relegation is still on the table and Clanachan wants it either at 14-16 clubs or shortly before.
  • Season is late April to October. 28 games, 14 home, 14 away.
  • "You don’t buy a sports team to become rich. You buy one for passion, legacy and the idea that you’re building something, and that patience level is the key. We have that with our team owners. They believe in the trajectory of soccer in Canada. "
  • No playoffs "in a traditional sense".
  • Team starting rosters will be 50%+1 Canadian players.
