Mill Avenue in all it's glory

Just thought I'd go get some pics so I can remember the way I love Mill Ave! (Before they tear half of it down!)

I spent many-a-(drunken)night there a few years ago in college, with too many memories. I love all of the old buildings (and don't care much for the new stuff - hence, I don't care if they tear down Harkins/Uno, etc.). The Owl's Nest/Hooter's/Library/Beelow's(don't know the name of it now) building is my favorite... nice shots!

Corporate-heavy, or not. New, or old. Mill Ave is still a valuable Phoenix area charm.

For all the complaints and problems, Mill seems to be a friendlier and more lively downtown every time I visit.

I don't mind seeing the historical 1980's construction go either, but wish most of the restuarants and retail would resurface after the construction. Some not be significant in AZ history, but it is significant in my history, and many others to be sure!

/\ I remember in the 1990s there were so many people you couldn't even walk on the streets, and in the early 2000s (when I was of age and at ASU) the bars and streets were completely PACKED you couldn't even move (walking from the bar to the bathroom and around the dance floor at the Owl's Nest was impossible). Then the smoking ordinace took hold in Tempe only and Scottsdale took off even more, leaving Mill Ave with less and less people. Although it is still very busy.

Where you there today by any chance? I saw a dude with an SLR walk by the Coffee Plantation when I was sitting in it with a friend (6:15 or so?).

Man, going down there today (first time since graduation pretty much) made me super nostalgic. I almost felt naked without my backpack, but walking past Starbucks was almost a shock (talk about blast from the past). Anyone know what's going on with the 5th and Mill building?

As for YOUR favorite parts of Mill Ave, I have to disagree. The photos rocked, let me just say, but you missed Restaurant Mexico (south of RA, GREAT Mexican food), the new pizzeria opening at ground level under Bamboo Club (whatever the building's called), Hippie Gypsy, Rula Bula. I'm missing some, too. I don't think it's possible to capture ALL its glory, short of going down there. I might have to borrow my mom's new DSLR (if I can figure out how to use it...) and go back down there. Keep up the photo posts, though. We need more diversion in the PHX area sub-forums.

^Funny how I bumped into you on Mill Avenue that day too. Joel....nice photos by the way, and I hope good things will come out of that 5th & Mill Building...I can't believe they completely gutted the whole buidling!

Before I left Tempe as an intern, that building is slated to become the home of a Gelato Spot, a few retail spaces, with office on the 2nd floor, and a penthouse home of Don and Mei Lee Plato, owners of the Gelato Spot. Wow....pretty awesome there!
