Nice! Since some parts of the building have no... actual building below, couldn't they do something like put an observation "deck" or room like they do with the Willis tower?

The Independent

It looks like it's going to be called "The Independent": http://www.independentaustin.com

If you go to the "Views" menu, it looks like the building will be 60 stories on the nose.

Very nice! Though it's hard to tell from the rendering/model, it appears that the building may include a significant crown above the highest occupied floor (perhaps 50-75ft+?) We could be looking at our new tallest. We'll find out soon enough.

The top of the spire on 360 is 581 feet high, so the 60th floor on this looks to be a little more than 600 feet. scraperwill mentioned the building would have 61 floors. One of them is an amenity floor, which I'm assuming will be a workout facility on the 61st floor similar to The Austonian's gym. That would probably add another 12 to 15 feet. The highest floor of The Austonian is 635 feet, and it seems slightly higher than the 60th floor of this building, but I think that's because the elevation drops the closer you get to Shoal Creek.

Where do you see it in relation to the Austonian? It's not in the picture I'm seeing.

On their website, click on 'menu' in the top right, then click on views. You can toggle the screen around with your cursor and zoom in.

Also, check out the 'about' link. They have a small video presentation that shows a video of the model. You can make it go full screen by clicking on the icon in the lower right.

I would say it's at or slightly below 700 feet. scraperwill's numbers are probably right.

SCRAPERWILL's info indicated that the height to the top of the mechanical penthouse roof was 675' (674.5'). There was no indication of the architectural height. From the image provided by Rhode Partners, there seems to be a substantial architectural piece (crown) at the top of this tower. If so, and including it's height, this could still be a ~750' building...possibly.

Floor 60 is definitely beneath the top of the Austonian if you go by the "views" page, but that doesn't include any crown or other architectural elements.

Still, I'm basing that off the massing models. It *might* be 700 feet tall. That massing model video also shows a model for 5th & West. 5th & West is 459 feet to the mechanical penthouse and 435 feet to the main roof, according to the elevations. This tower is maybe 250 feet higher than that, which would put it near the rumored 675 foot height.

I hope it cracks the 700 foot mark. It would be lame not to. I like the design so far.

Honestly, I hope it cracks 750 with the architectural elements.

Then add a 100' spire on top of the elements.

Rendering looks awesome!! It reminds me a bit of the "City of Capitals" buildings in Moscow, which I've always been a fan of.

Come on 700+ footer!!

I wonder how long before they decide to chop half of the building's height, a la Fairmont.

On the site it says "one of the tallest residential towers west of the Mississippi".

I noticed that. If they have their facts straight, that would mean it can't be taller than the Austonian. As it is now, the Austonian is the tallest all residential building west of the Mississippi. In fact, it's taller than any residential building west of Chicago - about three quarters of the western portion of the country doesn't have a taller residential building.

This building will only be 57 floors? Can't even break 60???

I like the design but come on, lets at least hit 60 floors.

I think what ahealy means is that it'll have 61 floors. The Austonian has 56 occupied floors, but there are 4 additional mechanical floors inside the mechanical penthouse.
