Apparently they are testing every section that arrive from over seas for the Walterdale Bridge. There were to many anomalies to ignore. A lot of welds are being redone. Sounds like the Calitrava bridge again.

It's amazing how much the Chaotianmen Bridge across the Yangtze River in Chongqing (world's longest arch bridge) resembles this bridge.

Aside from the colour and the double deck (highway above, metro below), they're almost identical in design.

both fantastic structures. the Laviolette bridge is often overlooked given its more burly counterparts up and downstream. I have to admit a major affection for the Pont de Quebec and the Pont Jacques-Cartier. These, with the Laviolette bridge, constitute the best of Quebec bridges.

End of an era for one of Saskatoon's eight bridges..

Video Link

South spans demolition of the 109 year old Victoria 'Traffic' Bridge back in January making way for a bigger new bridge with similar design & giving nod to heritage of Saskatoon's first vehicular bridge ever built.

Also the Grand Island NY bridges just west of Niagara falls.

Walterdale bridge second lift taking place today, 2,000 tonnes of steel raised 20 metres over 8 hours.

I knew this thing was going to be tall, but man do you feel it when you're up close. Really visible from a distance now too.

Bunch more photos here: http://skyrisecities.com/community/t.../#post-1105014

There's also a couple of really cool timelapse videos of the previous "big events" in the construction of this bridge:

Yesterday evening we decided to use the old bridge just for fun, and I couldn't help but notice the south third was asphalt-free (people are driving on the steel grid). I think Victoria bridge is actually like that permanently, isn't it?

Anyway, was nice to see they're working on it.
I wonder if it's going to get a fresh coat of paint in time for the 500th anniversary of the city...

..
On the Alexandra (also known as the Interprovincial) Bridge, the oldest bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau, the eastern (Gatineau-bound) lane has no asphalt. You're driving on the steel grid (grillage). It scares my kids.

The Ottawa-bound lane on the west side is on asphalt, and on the outer edge of that is another (wooden) section for bikes and pedestrians.

Try going across the Alexandra on a bicycle, as I once inadvertently did. "Heart in my throat" barely covers the experience!

In the traffic lanes or on the "boardwalk"? The boardwalk section is fine. I'd never do it in either of the traffic lanes. (I don't even think that is allowed.)
