The first murder last year was around late March, so around this time.

Also, the word out on the street is that this gonna be a bloody year on and off the island. The Sicilians are making a comeback, and the port is going to heat up.

I know people hate the Toronto Chicago comparisons so how about Chicago vs Canada comparison.

Thunder Bay has yet to record an official homicide for 2017, but we've got a few potential candidates for one...

A missing persons case from last year is now being investigated as a possible homicide by TBPS, though the body still hasn't been found.

Quote:

Thunder Bay police believe Justin 'Milky' Duncan was killed

Investigators say they still haven't found a body, will continue searching

...

"We don't have a body or any remains from Duncan," said Staff Sgt. Ryan Hughes.

"To this point from when he went missing in November, the evidence we've seized, the people we've spoken to, the investigating team believes he was murdered."

Up until now, police have only said they weren't ruling out homicide.

...

A couple months ago, an indigenous woman was assaulted with a trailer hitch. Doctors said the other day that she is likely going to die within weeks due to complications arising from that assault, which could cause the charges to be upgraded to a homicide. Because it involves an indigenous woman, this case has been particularly divisive on local social media, with local white supremacists claiming her alcoholism and liver problems nullify the assault and the assailant should be set free, and indigenous activists raising money to pay for her parents to visit her in hospital here in Thunder Bay. The page they've set up to raise funds (which has met its financial target) was repeatedly attacked with hateful comments from white supremacists, while hacktivists have been spreading rumours about and doxxing the accused on social media.

Video: Doctors tell Thunder Bay woman hit by trailer hitch that she has just weeks to live
A few months ago, a woman in Thunder Bay was struck with a trailer hitch thrown from a passing vehicle as she was walking down the street.

She was badly hurt and hospitalized.

Now she has been told by doctors that she is going to die.

Last week, barely a day after our newest Beer Store location opened, the unresponsive body of an indigenous woman was found behind a nearby Canadian Tire store. The body has been sent to Toronto for postmortem, police have not made a determination and results of the postmortem haven't been reported. Police held the site for 3 days.

UPDATE: Sudden Death Investigation

The Thunder Bay Police Service continues to investigate the sudden death of a 57 year old female who was found deceased just before 3:00 p.m. on March 21, 2017 in the area behind Canadian Tire located at the Thunder Centre.

The Coroner has ordered a postmortem be conducted at a date and location to be determined.

...

Lastly, an unresponsive male was found in his home in a gated community near the university last night. From what I can tell on social media comments, it's probably not a homicide, but police have yet to rule it out.

Athens Drive Sudden Death Investigation - UPDATE #2

A post mortem was completed in Toronto yesterday on Leroy Marc Troutlake who was found deceased on March 26, 2017 in an Athens Drive residence. The preliminary results of the postmortem examination were inconclusive.

The Criminal Investigations Branch continues to work with Regional Coroner's Office. The investigation continues.

Winnipeg is at 8 for the first 3 months of 2017. This compares with 6 the first 3 months of last year. Hopefully this year doesn't finish significantly higher than last year's 24, if the trend continues.

True carnage are the Chicago numbers. But to answer your question, homicide rates will fall when First Nations people have the same opportunities as the rest of us. Aboriginal people are inordinately represented in homicide numbers which is why cities such as Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Thunder Bay haver higher homicide rates than other cities. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

The names in the story you link appear to be of FN origin.

Thunder Bay still at 0. I don't think we've gone this long without a homicide since 2008, when we had no homicides. (But two in December 2007 and one in January 2009 so it averaged out.)

I guess nobody else is covering the rest of Québec - so triple homicide in Shawinagan on April 6, 2017. The guy has been arrested and charged.

I guess that puts them way, way ahead of Québec City per capita.

With a rate of 6 per 100,000, Shawinagan has a shot at the murder capital of Canada for 2017. For a comparison, Edmonton would have to hit about 60. So carnage is not just about raw numbers.

In the small village of Notre-Dame-du-Laus, about an hour NW of Gatineau, a man apparently killed his wife and teenaged daughter last night.

He then drove to the regional SQ detachment in Gatineau to turn himself in.

Generally those "murder capital" titles only get applied to CMAs. Shawinigan isn't a CMA.
