So sad! I can't believe Canadians still buy that crap when there are so many
better options available nowadays. I guess old habits are hard to break.

No surprise there. The common rabble has unrefined tastes, be it in beer, music, fashion, architecture, or what have you.

They still sell Labatt Blue? I can't even think of the last time I saw someone drink that...

My dad loves it, somehow. To me most non-craft beer is like... pop or something. Refreshing, but that's all... Unless you WANT to drink 12 or something, I guess.

Do they change the names of their beers everywhere?

I'm pretty sure Blackhorse, Blue Star, etc. are all just Labatt/Molson/etc. renamed here, right?

Well, this thread can certainly make one thirsty!

I don't necessarily have a 'go to' beer but the last few beers I've had are:

-Original 16. A tasty beer brewed locally by Great Western
-Prairie Lily lager. A local craft brew described as a German style pilsner
-Steamwhistle. Awesome beer that isn't sold in Saskatoon for some reason, but available in a small town outside the city where my wife happens to stop every now and then on her commute from work and picks me up a case! Yes, she is a keeper!

Does anyone on here mix Clamato with their beer? I wouldn't recommend wasting a good craft beer, but it is fine with a Coors light or Canadian or something along those lines.

What?? No love for Cariboos...?

Huge fan of Okanagan Spring's Black Lager. Honourable mentions to Propeller Pilsner and Mill Street Organic.

Domestic mainstream: Keith's or Kokanee
Microbrew (though some have been picked up by the big guys for distribution I think): Pumphouse Blueberry, Picaroon's Red, Brewster's Original
Import: Heineken, Corona, Red Stripe, or Prestige when I was in Haiti (I don't think it's carried in Canada, I check every now and then).

There's definitely something about the stubbies that you still get Red Stripe and Prestige in.

For one or two beers with a meal or on the patio somewhere its hard to beat any of Unibroue's selection. I think I like Maudite the best but Chambly is amazing as well, especially during the summer.

For a long night out I'd have to go with something lighter, probably just Canadian or Moosehead or whatever they have that's cheap.

I used to drink the mainstream beers (I still drink Moosehead and Sleeman HB occasionally) but have moved more towards the micro/craft brews as of late. Steamwhistle is good as always but I've been drinking more Muskoka and Beau's as well.
I do like Mill St. from time to time but I feel like I can taste every individual grain in their Organic.
And as mentioned Creemore is awesome. Cameron's is really underrated too.

Upper Canada was my cottage beer this year.

And yes I am aware Upper Canada and Creemore were bought by the Big 3. They still taste better.

I get a Maudite every time I go to Beertown. Expensive but amazing.

Ya Beertown is a real cash grab, almost $8 for a pint of Maudite I think. You can get a 6 pack at the beerstore for around $14.

By big 3, I am assuming you mean Coors, AB-Inbrev and Saporro?? Don't forget that even Unibroue is foreign owned (Saporro) - but you are right in that they retained the original recipes and brewing styles.

Hate to say this, but I still remember when the big 3 where Molsons, Labatts and Carling-Okeefe - all Canadian owned!

In addition to B-d-C, I do love all the Unibroue brands, even Raftman! Surprisingly, the prices in Ab seem to be lower than those in ON for these beers (at least from my experience at LCBO). I even named my canoe "La Chasse-galerie" in honour of La Maudite beer and christened it with said brew! Too bad they don't brew L'Eau Benite anymore

I want to visit a Beertown. We don't have beer stores here . You can just buy it anywhere - groceries, corner stores, gas stations, whatever. It's disappointing because it means most places only stock what sells well, meaning generic crap. You have to go to a bigger place, like Sobeys, to get a real selection.

Didn't Molson buy Coors? So it would be Molson-Coors. Kinda Canadian?

Labatts was bought by AB and Sleeman by Sapporo though which is a shame.

What happened to O'Keefe's?

EDIT: I didn't realise Keith's was also owned by AB...

Beertown is a (overpriced) restaurant that just has a large beer selection.

The Beer Store is the Ontario place. It also sucks and shouldn't even be legal. It's a privately-owned Oligopoly, and your only other choice is the government-owned LCBO, which doesn't sell 24s.

The good thing at least is that The Beer Store has finally gone back to warehouse-style stores instead of standing at a counter and ordering your beer from a back room. You always feel like an idiot standing in front of the sign not knowing what you want.

Molson and Coors "merged" but I think it was more of Coors buying out Molson.

As Calgarian said, it was a merger of "equals", but somehow Coors was more equal than Molsons and it is effectivelly now Coors. Technically Labatts was bought by Inbrev, which then merged with AB. Same end result though.

O'Keefe's merged with Carling a long time before we were all born, but were bought out by Molsons in the late 80's (after being bought out by Foster's from Aus I think).
