It would exist but as a small city centred on Port Credit.

I wouldn't even say Mississauga is its own municipality since most services are provided by the RM Peel. Hazel unsuccessfully tried to separate for decades from Peel.

I'm confident the largest city in Canada would still be here. Doesn't matter if Yonge or Hurontario was its centre.

It's the City of Mississauga... not the municipality of Mississauga

Obviously a lot of the GTA exists because of geography and it's close proximity/relationship with the big smoke.. but that does not negate the fact that it is a city.
Some Torontonians need to get their heads out of their asses.

Most of Mississauga is a suburban extension of Toronto but make no mistake, downtown Mississauga (centered on the Square One area) is its own city/community. Regardless, by that definition, independent cities like Hamilton and Oakville are also suburbs of Toronto.

The bigger city swallows/engulfs the smaller cities around it. This happens all over the world. The smaller cities are then slowly absorbed and assimilated into the whole. Yes, that's kind of Borg-like I know, but still... it happens. It is still happening...

by that arguement is North York its own city? not really..

Mississuaga has its own municipal government. If amalgamation in the 1990's had gone further than just Metro Toronto, nobody would be arguing this. Mississauga is a collection of villages that grew to 700,000 people because of the growth pressures emanating from Toronto, and is intricately tied to Toronto, and the rest of the GTA, through commuting patterns, infrastructure, etc. An arbitrary municipal boundary does not make a built form a different city.

Hamilton is more of its own city as it has much more independent commuting patterns and has a history of growth coming from things not related to Toronto. Oakville is no different than Mississauga though, Nor is Vaughan, Markham, Brampton, Pickering, etc.

As for "getting our heads out of our asses", I've only been living in the 416 for 2 years. Before that, I was a 905er too, albeit not Mississauga. I still work in the 905, and am very far from the type of person who "never goes north of Bloor Street"

Independent? In what way are either of those location independent today? Hamilton certainly used to be; I really doubt if Toronto suddenly disappeared if it would remain unchanged.

Areas the province defined to make management of streets easier doesn't mean much; as we know those can be redrawn at any time and actual impact (aside from a few %age points on the budget) changes very little.

This is quite preliminary, with few details, but it certainly looks tall, well over 200 metres. Needs an entry in the database, 88 Queen E, maybe with an estimated height of 222 metres. But there isn't enough information yet to create a drawing for the diagram section.

And then this was posted the next day:

And I'll need to revise the list on page 1 again soon.

88 Queen is a ghosted mass. I can add it but, it will be as a vision.
Isn't the Widmer proposal on the list already? Getting old. Confusing those that are public with those those that aren't.

88 Queen wont be approved at anything more than 40 storeys.

This is the longest proposal drought I can remember since the boom began, since September we have had 3 major proposals of which, one looks to be on a 20 year timeline, the other looks like a vision and the last is the most serious and only about 180 meters.

Of course the one in September was all hell massive, ....but still.

A vision is fine, and I remember trying to upload a drawing for 88 queen a month ago, but it wasn't a real proposal so I deleted it. Now I can't find it anywhere, and I cant find an entry for 8 Widmer either.

Added both.

Of note: a quick comparison revealed that 88 Queen may be shorter than everyone thinks. Came out under 200 metres.

Based on the video representation it looks quite tall (i.e., well over 200 metres), but who knows how accurate that image is?

I did use an image from the video to come up with the height. Maybe I measured wrong. The tallest surrounding it is only 85 metres. Two times that is 170 metres. I think 195 works. My original thought was taller too but, also 130 metres being a good tall height for the area.

Official numbers would also imply official renders too. And I'm quite interested in what actual height will be announced.
