River Street will soon be home to another new hotel.
An abandoned hotel annex at the corner of River Street and Martin Luther King Jr. will be demolished to make way for a 165-plus room hotel to be named later. The new hotel will occupy an entire city block across from the old Savannah Electric power plant.
The hotel project is a development of Columbus, Ohio-based RockBridge Capital. RockBridge bought the property at 412 Williamson Street along with the neighboring Best Western at 412 West Bay Street in 2009.
Plans call for the seven-story building, which will include two levels of parking and retail space facing River Street, to measure 161,082 square feet. The Historic Review Board examined the project Wednesday and gave approval for demolition of the abandoned hotel annex.
