As I said, I'm interested in hearing where that was quoted from, as

1) It seems to be directly contradicted by the actual legal filing.
2) On Wednesday, the Statesman was reporting that the city was refusing to give a statement (as you'd expect, with litigation pending).

The fact that a business owner gives in to FUD based on no data isn't really material one way or another.

If only the City had thought to hire & assign an artist to the Waller Creek Tunnel project from the get-go.

Ah well, water under the bridge so to speak.

So it feels as if the city is trying to quietly sweep the entire Waller Creek transformation under the metaphorical carpet. No news on when Waterloo Park will open. No movement regarding turning Sabine Street into a pedestrian promenade. No indication that we will see future development along the creek given the tunnel flaw. Or at least, I haven't come across or noticed any news about it since the tunnel flaw was revealed.

The question needs to be asked at this point. Will the Waller Creek vision forever be incomplete? Will it be considered one of the biggest blunders in Austin's history or has the timeline once again been stretched out even longer. Another decade or more, or as I said if it is ever truely completed??? This is after all a major piece of the Downtown puzzle.

Fair question. I agree that it's been quiet for some time, but I live overseas...

There have been stories about all of those within the past month. Like

As for the Sabine promenade, construction literally just started

http://www.austintexas.gov/departmen...reet-promenade

The construction contract only passed the council in February.

Far from "sweeping it under the rug", it's full speed ahead. See the TIF extension I linked above in May.

Here is a Tower report from May.

https://austin.towers.net/checking-o...waterloo-park/

This isn't "not happening", it's definitely happening. It's just a bit public works project.

There was quite a bit of construction work on Sabine Street when I drove by late last week. The entire street appeared to be shut down and road was already being ripped up. That area has some nice potential. I'm glad to see work getting underway.

Good, glad to hear. Just thought I'd get this thread back on the first page since I mostly get update news through here, especially since I've started at my new job. Was curious since nothing had been posted for a bit. Still worried about the tunnel but will see how it handles over the next few years.

Is it still going on another weekend. I went the last 2 years but it completely slipped my mind that it was already that time.

I meant to post this a couple of weeks back. I was in a meeting and the official announcement was made that the tunnel has been officially accepted by the city and is providing the prescribed flood reduction benefits.
Hopefully, some of the stalled projects on the East side of downtown will start moving forward.

Last plan I saw said summer 2020, they are expecting about 70 events per year once the lawn and stage are opened.

I was annoyed at the lack of updates on this one and set off to take a look myself. You can see the 17-story Breckenridge site prep going on in the background.
