There is a Yelp post that says it appeared closed yesterday (07/01).

The Taco Cabana at MLK and Nueces has shut down too. Are there any development plans for that site?

That would be my guess. They always seemed fairly busy to me. So I can't imagine them shutting down due to lack of business.

This CI article says it was closed because it was under performing. It doesn't mention anything about being closed for development.

The site plan hasn't been approved, but it was posted for AULCC. We've already seen elevations, but they start on page 22.

This is weird. The site plan was never approved, and now the application has now expired.

All within two days the site plan status went from Expired to Waiting on Legal to Approved and Released. This one should be starting soon since the restaurant on site closed last summer.
