Yes, and for the teenagers and the younger kids. Then again, people in the Monarch were horrified with the construction of the Bowie because that Monarch pool gets no sun now, and it already wasn't heated. Even in late April the pool was too cold to truly swim in. This brings up an interesting discussion actually. What will the impact of Bowie and the Northshore have on the rent prices in a building like the Monarch, which is no longer the premier rental location downtown. Will we see some dynamic pricing in some of the "older" residential buildings emerge, providing a little more affordability downtown.

That's generally what happens.

This morning, on my walk to work, I saw they took down the banner on the fence surrounding the perimeter of the site. They appeared to be working on taking down the fence. I hope this means construction is starting soon. I'll check it out on the way home to see what type of progress they made.

Drove by there a little while ago. One guy was working a jackhammer trying to break up an existing slab along a neighboring wall. There was a bobcat like piece of equipment moving about along the alley, and a dump truck had just pulled out of the lot. I guess these are hopeful signs.

Clearing the site for construction sounds like. Remember they have to start digging here pretty soon.

Is condo competition heating up Downtown? Fifth & West seems to be emphasizing their progress as opposed to other projects with this post on their website:

Fifth & West Secures Building Permit

Posted: May 14, 2015
The City of Austin has issued Fifth & West a building permit, making it the only luxury project in downtown Austin that is capitalized, under construction, with available units for sale and scheduled for delivery to owners in the Fall of 2017. Fifth & West offers discerning owners the nearest term opportunity to enjoy a downtown lifestyle in one of the most exciting cities in the country.

This tower will also fill in a small gap in the skyline.

Here's an image from their web site (http://www.5thandwest.com/) that I haven't seen in this forum - this is the northwest corner of the building so the view is "looking southeast":
