Construction on Carroll at Bellemeade moving along. construction is moving slower than your typical suburban apartment complex. Its taken over 2 years. The most visible exterior changes that we have seen in weeks are the windows being installed in the apartments on the Eugene Street side and the glass being installed on the main entrance area of the Hyatt hotel. The big parking lot in the foreground in one of the photos below is a site being pitched to developers by Downtown Greensboro Inc. for high density residential. Construction on the ballpark office tower across the street will be well underway when Carroll at Bellemeade is complete. We should also see construction on the 8 story deck portion of/ Aloft mixed use tower across the street begin next year. The deck is projected to be completed by December 2018 and construction on the 20 story tower on top should begin shortly after for a 2020 Aloft hotel opening.

City council will consider spending $28 million for a 6 story parking deck in which the 8 to 11 story Westin hotel will sit on top. The article also mentioned a similar agree with Roy Carroll's planned tower project across from the ballpark. An Aloft hotel will sit above the 8 story deck and the article mentions office and residential will be included in that tower. City documents show its a planned 20-story tower on top of an 8 story deck with street level retail and restaurants embedded in the deck. The deck will serve as a parking facilty for the tower above it, the future 9 story ballpark office tower across the street and the general public.

Project Slugger in downtown Greensboro. Construction will soon begin. This combined with Hyatt Place/Carroll at Bellemeade will create some nice density around the ballpark.
The city is building a parking deck across the street and Roy Carroll will build a mixed-use development around the deck

I apologize, I have an eternally negative opinion of North Carolina (except of the mountainous region), but I have to say... that theater is OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! That is a proper theatrical venue for cities much, much larger than not just Greensboro but the entire Triad!
Gotta say, damn good job to whoever pushed that theater to fruition.

A $90 million venue paid for entirely through wealthy donors and ticket/parking user fees. No city tax dollars which is an amazing feat for such a pricey venue and it will still be owned by the city. It will be the largest performing arts center in the Carolinas. Greensboro has done an excellent job building civic projects through private dollars. The downtown ballpark and both downtown city parks were built with private money thanks to wealthy local foundations. The parks were donated to the city and the ballpark is owned by a non profit. Greensboro used Memphis as a model in the financing of the downtown ballpark. It is a model that cities should follow to get big civic projects built.

Development around the ballpark is really popping up and there are two more projects. An office building will replace the Plaza area behind the playground and grassy berm at the intersection of Bellemeade and Eugene St. Across the street from the office building in the parking lot, the city is building a parking deck and developer Roy Carroll will build "Carroll at Bellemeade South" the sister development to Carroll at Bellemeade which is the block long development overlooking the field. Carroll at Bellemeade has 300 luxury apartments and a Hyatt Place Hotel. Carroll at Bellemeade South will wrap around the city deck and include residential, retail, office and another hotel which is believed to be an Aloft. Roy Carroll also hinted building a convention center downtown so its possible a convention center could be included with Carroll at Bellemeade South. The brick building south of the parking lot will be torn down.

According to the News and Record, Carroll plans a 20 story office tower, with a 9 or 10 story Aloft Hotel. It will include residential, street level retail and possibly a grocery store. A large conference center will also be included. Carroll said construction will begin in 2020.
The ground breaking for the 9 story office tower "Project Slugger" overlooking looking First National Bank Field in downtown Greensboro happened this evening. Construction starts immediately and First National Bank will house its regional headquarters the building. Last year the building was trimmed down to 6 stories due to delays with the planned parking deck across the street. The developers are going back to 9 stories. The ballpark has seen a lot of surrounding development in recent years. The Hyatt Place Hotel and midrises Carroll at Bellemeade luxury apartments just recently opened and the deck across the street associated with Project Slugger will have a 20 story office tower, 9 story Aloft hotel and midrise apartments wrapped around that deck.
Took some night time photos of downtown Greensboro. I was amazed that so many people were downtown on a Sunday night. People walking the streets, drinking at bars. Even some of the nightclubs were banging.
Other photos.
