GOD, some people are so skeptical! Let them build it and then criticize it afterwards... I heard the same sh*t about Burj Dubai and now, a few years later, it's nearing completion. So what if it rotates? Just another innovation that will become normal in the future... Engineering problems that engineers LOVE to solve, and will perfect, I'm sure. Buildings like this are radical now, but will become commonplace. (Not at this height though!) Even if this particular tower doesn't get built, others similar to this will be. Some people dump on Dubai just because they think it's economy is based on OIL, (false) or because they wished their hometown built such spectacular buildings and now they feel like they're being left behind. Get over it! Motion sickness? Who the hell would move into a structure like this if they thought they might have problems like that? There might be something about the motion of the building in the tenant agreement, or lease, or whatever it's called, that recognizes this aspect of the building. Personally, I can't wait to see a tower like this in motion! I wish I could afford to buy a unit in one of the upper floors!

ohh,I can just imagine having metel scraping slowly across your roof and making a hell of a noise when your trying to sleep.

supposedly the rotation will always be slow enough to where there won't be any problems with motion sickness.
It appears to moving pretty fast in the videos, but it looks awesome.

The movies aren't in real time. Every floor of the tower will make a rotation of 360° in 3 hours time. So that's not that fast.

I wonder if the floors will be free to spin continuously, or if they can only move, say, 180 degrees from a center "home" position. I would guess the units can turn freely, drawing electricity from a circular "third rail" in the core. I suppose the water supply and sewer would have to consist of local tanks for each unit like a mobile home or RV. The resupply of the fresh water and discharge of waste would have to happen when the unit is locked into a service position.
I cant imagine what the maintenace costs would be above and beyond a conventional structure!! The condo association fees will have to be astronomical, but I suppose that wont be an issue for these privledged residents. Also insurance... that industry will have fun assessing risk associated with this one. Unique things to consider, such as bringing your Ferrari with a hot engine and tank of racing fuel inside a supertall skyscraper. Or, the potential for a plumbing disaster!

Looks like there's a sister tower being talked about for New York.

That's tower #3 that will be build by architect David Fisher (one in Dubai, Moscow and now one in NYC.)

I've read that all this is a fraud. That David Fisher isn't even an architect.

Source: Businesssheet.com & WCBStv.com

Architect Behind Dubai's Rotating Skyscraper A Fraud?
Italian "architect" Dr. David Fisher is planning to build an 80-story building in Dubai with rotating floors that would give it an ever-changing shape. He also wants to build similar towers in Russia and New York. The building does look cool (if structurally dubious), but Fisher's credentials and experience leave something to be desired:
Fisher acknowledges that he is not well known, has never built a skyscraper before and hasn't practiced architecture regularly in decades. But he insisted his lack of experience wouldn't stop him from completing the project, which has attracted top design talent, including Leslie E. Robertson, the structural engineer for the World Trade Center and the Shanghai World Financial Center.
"I did not design skyscrapers, but I feel ready to do so," Fisher said.

That's a relief. And next comes the possibility that Fisher may be a fraud:

In a biography he had been distributing for months, he said...he received an honorary doctorate from "The Prodeo Institute at Columbia University in New York." No such institution exists, however, and Columbia said it had never awarded Fisher an honorary degree.

Asked to explain the discrepancy, Fisher said, through his New York publicists, that he had been awarded the degree by the Catholic University of Rome during a ceremony in 1994 held at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, which is near Columbia's campus.

Asked again to clarify the name of the school that conferred the degree, Fisher's publicists said in an e-mail that "Dr. Fisher did receive an honorary doctorate in Economics from Pre Deo University, but it has been removed from his bio because he wants to be entirely accurate and cannot be with this information."

Come again?

Is this a joke? Is he one of these guys that throws a botox party, then injects window caulk into peoples faces and you never see him again? What the hell is going on here.

They're also interested in building rotating towers in Canada, Germany, and Italy next.

Smelled like a total scam the first time I heard about this last year.
That the only thing he has designed so far has been some hotel bathrooms.

The whole idea is insane.

I was wondering that myself. I suppose they could give the building a really thick core, each floor completely open at the transition from core to rotating area, then have the kitchen/bathrooms within the core to avoid any issues with plumbing connectivity. Think of the typical rotating restaurant that you might find in a big city.

But that would require each floor to be its own unit and if you have a whole floor for yourself, that defeats the need to rotate it.

Rush hour must suck when you're on the top flooring waiting for that car elevator.

I heard that pre-fabrication for the floors had already begun, but considering how the architect is about as credible as a... uh... Democrat (I kid! But you get my point) can anyone truly confirm that?

And also, as revolutionary as this idea is, look at the last disheveled looking part of the rendering. I don't care amazing (mathematically and from an engineering standpoint) it is, it's just plain ugly.

However, it does look rather nice in the first few frames.

BTW: this is the rendering I'm talking about: http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com...ate%202big.jpg

P.S. If anyone can tell me how thumbnail, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think fabrication of anything got to do with this tower is anywhere near beginning to be honest.
