it's silly how they think that the fact that it has reached the 52nd floor means its halfway, they have no idea how to measure in feet...
You're getting way too hung up on petty details, as usual.

It's not called the Freedom Tower anymore for a reason.

I agree. For some reason, a lot of people who would also agree are somehow unaware of the name change. Perhaps various media outlets just started referring to it as One World Trade Center, without explicitly announcing the name change, and most people haven't noticed since most people aren't skyscraper nerds who actively seek this kind of information.

On the other hand, I haven't encountered anyone who prefers to call it the Freedom Tower and is convinced the name change means Obama is a socialist, but I'm sure such a person exists.

it was a silly name reflecting a juvenile, comic-book sensibility concerning world affairs and the role of america.

ive never understood the opposition to the name "Freedom Tower". in reality its a nickname, like SWFC being called the can opener or the GE bldg being called the slab.

oh by the way, i had a question to all of you who live in new york:

Do new-yorkers call that new skyscraper "Tower one of the world trade center", or "freedom tower" ???

i mean, when you go to chicago, you notice that the tallest skyscraper is called 'willis tower' since 2009 but EVERYONE says 'sears tower' in chicago..

so i wanted to know what is the point of view of new yorkers...

Many buildings in the world have an official name but also a actual name used by people : The famous example is the 'gherkin' in london, although its official name is 'st mary axe'...

Is it the same for "freedom tower" ?

I'm a New Yorker and more people than I'd like to think still call it The Freedom Tower and I'm always correcting them.

At least 80% of the people I've spoken to about it call it the Freedom Tower. Even some of the news stations call it the Freedom Tower.

After the name 'Freedom Tower' had been rendered unofficial a while back, I found it interesting, in that Panthers vs Jets preseason football game last night, that Al Michaels of NBC, still referred to it as such, while showing it on television, during the game.

You're correct--they actually called it that every time the camera panned it. Not one mention of "World Trade Center" at all. I find that New Yorkers have become comfortable calling it the new world trade center, but I wonder if outside the area it's still universally "Freedom Tower."

It might as well evolve into a nickname.
