There are plans in the future of lenthening Runway 13-31 from 7901' to 9100'. (To the northwest.) Runway 13 will have a displaced threshold [where it is now anyway] in order for aircraft to appropriately clear the CP mainline. (If the track were to be occupied.)

I remember back in '78, there was a [revived?] proposal for a parallel Runway 13-31 which would have been about 10,000' long. Harbour Landing has now certainly kiboshed that idea.

Love, love, love the period correct airliner models with period correct livery.

As far as posting pics, you are 95% of the way there. You already have them on imageshack, so you just need to copy and paste the img code, rather than the link.

Thanks Stormer: It's that last 5% that gets us almost every time! (Ask any High Jumper/Pole Vaulter!)

Air Transat at YXE

One of the larger aircraft seen at YXE over the last few years - Airbus A310-300. Let's hope YXE starts hosting larger aircraft than the usual Boeing B737-800 for scheduled flights. Departing flight to Peurto Vallarta

More than 1.8 million passengers went through Regina's airport in 2011 — nearly a four per cent increase from 2010

Back in the 80's there was charter 747 service to London. The 747s are disappearing, however it would be nice to get some Europe bound flights.

Wardair 747-200 to London : http://www.airliners.net/photo/Warda...6d0d72b3411411 (Photo from airlines.net).

The '747s are not disappearing. In fact, Boeing is now producing the B747-8 model. 747s will be in the skies for 30-40 years to come. February 9th will be the 44th anniversary of the first 747-100 flight from Everett, WA.

I don't think Wardair flew to London from Saskatchewan airports. Back during the summer of '83-84, there were direct, non-stop charters to Honolulu via Wardair's B747s/DC-10s. In the narrative, the fella was referring to flying to London via Wardair aircraft alright; however, from a different airport. (Not necessarily from Saskatoon.)

We'll eventually see that the "1.8 million" pax utilizing Regina's ATB during 2012 is a typo. (At the most: 1.3 million.) Also, as to why they're talking about 2010-2011 - I don't know.

Scheduled [Westjet] Boeing 737s which serve Regina/Saskatoon are 600/700 series a/c. The 800 series '737s are used by Westjet and Sun Wing during the sun destination season.

I lived in Vancouver back in the 80's so I can't say for certain. The description on the photo says the route was a Calgary -> Saskatoon -> London.

Having a non-stop to Europe would be nice, however I suspect it is unlikely just now given Winnipeg does not have European service. Maybe the new Air Canada vacation airline in a few years after it gets more aircraft.

Some of the destination vacations are Saskatoon > Regina > Puerto Vallarta (and Puerto Vallarta > Saskatoon > Regina on the way back). And I think the Saskatoon and Regina airports are trying to team up in a similar fashion to get a Euro flight together. At least that's what I read about a while ago.

That's correct. Last winter, the Regina and Saskatoon airport authorities were collectively courting the German airline Condor with regards to a Saskatchewan-Germany route.

Great Reporting CBC! If this truly was the passenger increase at YQR, this is actually over 50% increase in traffic year over year ... 2011 passenger load was just over 1.141mill... as per Regina Airport Authority

I also thought 1.8 million seemed like an awfully big spike. In any case, CBC corrected their story to say it was just over 1.18 million pax.

Yes, this morning cbc radio reported that "2011" experienced over 1.1 million passengers. Fine, but it begs the question of why they are reporting 2011 statistics in the first half of Jan 2013? surely 2012 stats are available?

Corrections and Clarifications
  • An earlier version of this story incorrectly said there were nearly 4 per cent more passengers in 2011 compared to 2010. In fact, the years were 2012 and 2011. Also, the number of passengers in 2012 was more than 1.18 million, not 1.8 million. (Jan. 14, 2013 | 11:27 AM CST)

YXE passenger traffic up considerably in 2012

According to the YXE Fall 2012 newsletter, it looks like YXE passenger traffic should exceed 1.3 million in 2012. (I presume that YXE will post their final 2012 numbers soon.)

My apologies for posting that incorrect info. I didn't know CBC had the number wrong...
