Been a while since I've posted, anyhoo some possible future airport news.
Boyd predicts Memphis will get TATL within the next 36 months. Couple that with the news from a few weeks back back that Memphis tourism numbers are up including international folks.

Now, Norwegian is in a bit of a struggle right now but if they are bought out or they fold, AIG group(parent of British Air, Air Lingus) is my bet on where all their 787s end up at. I also think Jet Blue's founder's new airline under the working name Moxy will add service from Memphis with their former C-Series, now A220s being a great plane for Memphis.
I just spent 6 weeks in Europe and yes, I spent a few days in Copenhagen and Tivoli Gardens. Just like Tivoli being across the street from their central station and Mud Island being at the front door of Memphis, I am more convinced than ever that this is the route that Memphis should take for Mud Island. I learned a bit more about how Tivoli works. Many of the food vendors are independant from the park itself, just leasing spaces that amount to basically a stationary food truck offering up different types of grub. Mud Island has many of the components already there outside of the rides. The River Walk, Amp and Museum offer up that up. Work on those and add great aquarium and a selection of top notch rides and more botanical featurea with some splash pads-water play areas, a couple of more traditional playground areas that would be free outside of the rides and an European style Christmas Market/Lights festival and you have a Grand Slam that is missing for families in the Mid South. It would draw weekend visits for all over a 5 hr radius coupled eith our world class zoo, Childrens museum, food and other attractions.
How Tivoli squeezes ever square inch out of it's confined space yet still come off as cozy but roomy has to be experiences in person. How they build a tower ride and yet put another ride underneath it and how it works seemlessly has to be seen. The way the rides are all done is a similar style but without the fance queues of disney and yet still feels much more than a carnival is amazing.
I'm still convinced having been on a couple of similar Soarin' style rides at European parks that an attraction like this that takes you on a journey down the entire Mississippi is a no brainer for either the River Museum or new aquarium with or without all the other stuff.
My solution to the Tom Lee Park controversy would be to build a, you guessed it, new stadium near Beale that could host headliners in greater numbers, thus allowing bigger acts to be booked like Bonnaroo and NOJF while incorporating a couple of smaller area in the new Tom Lee park for smaller acts but still have the riverfront presence till its time for the late , day ending acts. As you know, I wanted it to replace the Liberty Bowl and at least have a fabric roof system like Vancouver but it could be a soccer venue but needs at least up to 35,000 for concerts.
