I wouldn't be so sure. Many restaurants put up signs saying they're closing for "renovations" and never reopen. I heard it has something to do with liquidating inventory before creditors get a chance at it but that could be made up.

If it is anything like the previous restructuring/renovation, it should be back open in 4-5 years.

Had lots of potential but didn't seem to meet the quality of the original version. I'll miss that spot more than Papa Georges.

Hey would a drive through fit?? Sell the city's parking lot next door ...

I like it.

Will be perfect, bilingual, next to CMHR to draw in that tourist crowd. Fits the area better than Sals did too, no offence to Sals fans

I agree. It is a unique, stand alone restaurant, and fits into the niche of the surrounding area. I feel that given the surrounding French community, its current reputation as a quaint, yet affordable spot, that it will work far better in that location.

I have heard only good things. I really hope they remain open for the duration of the season. Winter needs to be marketed better in this city. With the River Trail, Winter Glacier Park and Le Festival, we have taken steps in the right direction.

Next on Winnipeg's to do list for the winter is to step up to the challenge and create an ice hotel, that rivals, if not surpasses Ville de Quebec's.

Thank you for sharing this sentiment, I strongly agree with you. Winnipeg could and should really take the 'winter' momentum and just run with it.
I don't know where to start.

Festival / The Forks / St. Boniface is the heart of Wintertime family fun, and should be the focus to build around, but its not the only thing going in town. Either

This city is a winter sports centre, the MCA curling bonspiel is still the largest in North America, despite shinking in size from its heydey back in the 80's. Hockey... lets see, outdoor rinks in every neighborhood, private rinks built on lakes and rivers, no need to mention where the Jets fit in this category. Imagine outdoor annual tournaments, cross country skiing races, some kind of event to draw in visitors.

An NHL Heritage classic is on everyone's radar, but its a once-in-a-while big wowza event. Why not have a series of smaller events every year?

Winnipeg needs a 'Crashed Ice' type event... of course, it won't be crashed ice since there are no hills here! But how about a cross country ski race along the red every year?

Snow scupture competition? Ice hotel? Restaurant on the river (great move guys). Create something, an event or two and build it up.

But its not just 'winter' that we can grow -- Winnipeg is positioned well to be an Arctic tourist destination too -- the Journey to Churchill Exhibit is going to be a very big draw when its fully finished.

The MTS iceplex / retail hub soon-to-be built on the west side will be a draw. The IKEA / regional shopping hub will become a big draw... all seasons, so where's the harm is marketing the city as a combined winter festival / winter shopping destination?

Just some random ideas... and I just realized I've been dumping them incoherently in the restaurants thread.

How about an Arctic-themed restaurant? Arctic Char? Inuit traditional foods?

Farmery is a very smooth beer. I can understand its appeal to many people. I prefer more bitter beers myself. Farmery is a very good brew. I like Hoegarden.
