Nice, I guess the yellow will add to the theme going on with CCA and the LSC and parallel that of the Vic's red.

There aren't a lot of older buildings around there though, and there are already some taller apartment buildings nearby. This is a great spot for added density and I'm pleased that there seem to be few complaints about this development.

We will probably hear more if and when the Jono proposal on the other side of Cogswell moves forward because there are some houses nearby.

This will be great! Can't wait till there is a hole in the ground. My only wish now is the ablemarie (market) street would be a little bit better. As it is now it sucks...

Doesn't look like there are any balconies which is kinda weird for an apartment tower.

Overall the design doesn't do anything for me, but I echo others' appreciation for the increased density.

The darker building on the left is the apartment building. Yellowish balconies are shown in the rendering. I think both of the lighter coloured buildings are hotel.

And yeah, you have to understand this within the context of the area. It will bring in a lot of new density and it looks far better than average for that part of town. If this becomes the new average in Halifax that will be a marked improvement over a few years ago.

Oh I was totally misreading the picture. Somehow I thought that the building in the background was an existing unrelated apartment building in the area, but of course those would be across the street.

I did a quick Photoshop edit of the picture that you posted. I believe that the three Citadel Hotel buildings (2 hotel towers and 1 apartment tower) will be about this size in the image.

^ As the most popular and publicised view of Halifax, it's thrilling to think of the skyline filling up this quickly. Getting three new towers in a single development will be excellent for the downtown.

This is the view I see most often on post cards, and a frequent backdrop for CTV National News, and is the image most frequently used by American and international news shows whenever Halifax is referenced -- which is surprisingly not overly seldom due to our associations with the Titanic, WWII, Swissair 111, 9/11, ...and sending a Christmas Tree to Boston every year in appreciation for their helping the city after the Halifax Explosion.

With the Citadel Hotel development proceeding, I wonder what can be done with this adjacent, inhospitable area of the downtown - http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=halifax...103.16,,0,0.47 (Scotia Square Parkade and blank apartment wall along Cogswell Street).

First off, they need to get rid of the damned interchange. Bring in some great density with some residential development and urban style retail. The area could be transformed into a great liveable area in just a few years but as per usual there is no political will from any level of government to see it happen. Also, that idiotic staples really needs to go, and the centennial pool should be replaced.

I think the interchange has to go if that's to become a successful, pedestrian-friendly part of the downtown, but I don't think removing the interchange will by itself fix much.

It's nice to see some development around the margins because that means that if and when the interchange comes down the new land will be easier to tie in with the rest. New buildings like the Citadel Hotel are of course important but so are projects like the Baton Rouge addition to Morse's Teas.

It could work out really well if we see a bunch of new buildings and then the interchange land becomes available for development in 5-10 years. In particular it would be good to add more residents. I also think Granville Mall would be much more successful as a kind of centrepiece surrounded by buildings rather than a dead end next to the interchange.

They could even extend Granville all the way to Upper Water street.
