In the document, the 2010 Demonstration project map seems to show a "Passing Track", meaning it would be a single-track Streetcar with a passing track in between Heather and Silka Square stops, maybe a little east of Oak Street.

I can't upload the map online as I'm not at home right now. If someone can do that, it would be great,

The first few things on yimbies agenda:

- a new bylaw requireing all buildings in metro Vancouver older then 25 years to be torn down and replaced with newer, taller ones.
- Indy Car in Shaughnessy.
- Elevated 10 lane Highway to UBC.

I realize it's just a concept, but I really like the platform design illustrated in the brochure above. The giant letters can't be missed, although I would change the colors around.

Yeah, the colours in the pic are pretty much the same as the ones for the gaudy WCE stations/trains, which could also use some changing around. Purple and yellow together... blech... well at least those two versions thereof. The 90s gave us some pretty horrid colour legacies, like all of the hues of aqua/green a la the Surrey Skytrain stations or a myriad of other condos, institutions, etc. constructed during that period, especially when mixed with pastels. :S It's hard to believe that something becomes so dated after such a short time. It's kind of sad. Will anything we currently build truly stand the test of time in the way that architecture of the more distant past has??? Or have we become so of the moment and so concerned with building things cheaply and quickly that we will never again create anything aesthetically endurable???

Those renderings are not the actual design, they are just conceptual.

Thank you for uploading the actual document SFUVancouver. It's much better seeing the original document itself than reading dry text from me =P

Now that we were talking about possible Streetcar stops, here are a few streetcar stops (not stations as we would probably not see those in our system)

Anyone remember these? They can be easily reused...

I really like the one with the grass in between reails... It looks awesome and it increases green surfaces in the city.

Uh, that's what I said.

I like the grass between the rails, but I imagine that would entail the additional maintenance of cutting the grass so I don't think it's very practical.

Unless you put blades under the trains? Then you never have to worry about mowing the grass.

Great plan, though I don't get why one of the future lines runs on Drake instead of Davie. A Davie line could be extended into the West End

The hill levels out along Drake.

The city maintains lots of grass, in parks, next to roads, on boulevards and the freeway median. It would not be unrealistic to maintain grass between the tracks in some areas. Grass would look great if ever extend the line along the arbutus corridor; imagine how great it would be if they had the streetcar and a bike/pedestrian path.

I like the simple station designs all the station stops need is a covered area, a place to sit and a ticket machine.

^Don't forget their ticket valadators too. Porto Metro is one of the best in the world.

As I was driving down [not me driving] past Seattle (I'm in Oregon right now), I saw the LRT construction and noticed most of their line is really just guideway... They could've had a full metro but chose LRT instead. Thank god we don't have LRT at the Evergreen Line.... the wires of the LRT with the guidway is really an eyesore... I have no idea why they have so many wires... Maybe LRT/StreetCar in Vancouver would look better.

I really hope this doesn't start another debate on what streetcar, LRT, Light Metro, ALRT, Metro, Subway... is.
