Not a bad idea. But did the woman have no awareness of her surroundings? Did she not notice no-one else doing so? Had she never seen anyone in a movie/tv/... at an airport?
Something more to the story there.

So, below is only a little gadget for fun, no option for real transit, but anyway...

We've probably all heard of this iron man fantasy of people more or less flying by their own means. It looks like a former jet ski champion from Marseille found an interesting solution. A standalone platform allowing him to fly, sort of like iron man for real.
There he was showing it off in Florida.

His name is Franky Zapata, definitely an awesome self-educated inventor and his gear is called 'flyboard'.
He would've designed it on his own with some financial help from the French military that funded his effort. That costed €1.3 million from them; maybe not too much given the convincing outcome.

His machine was on display for the July 14 military parade over here. I'm hardly astonished that the military would be interested...
Notice it could be helpful to firefighters too, somehow.

His thing is more like this.

Except the guy means no harm at all to you.

It's fascinating cause it actually works, like it's usable already.
This is the most realistic gear of this type I've seen so far. Idk how much would cost a unit for now. Maybe €300k, whatever overpriced.
But it's a good idea that should gradually go cheaper as it is being developed.

This may have been posted before in the thread, but I just got back from Medellin and experienced their transit system. Cable cars & escalators operate quite well as neighborhood-commute options for steeply-inclined locales.

Given my city's hilly terrain, I wish the City of Birmingham would look in to cable cars that could provide rapid transit efficiently to what would likely be a lower ridership.

The great thing about our urban area is that our road arteries all lead to our secondary urban cores. Having cable cars following the ROW of the road arteries could easily avoid indadvertant views of private property, and therefore avoid NIMBYs.

Sadly, this makes too makes sense.

Guess we'll see how our new BRT line works out.
