This is slightly OT, but does anyone know if there have been any plans to replace madison square garden? I know a lot of people like it because of the history that has happened there, but it is a pretty hideous building. A modern and beautiful arena like the ones that have recently gone up in Europe, and China would look great there.

Edit: Never-mind, did some research and it seems the city wants the arena moved so they can build a new Penn Station.

Not too fond of this building. It could use some cleaning.

That is going to be a logistic nightmare rebuilding Penn. Busiest station in the U.S., its not going to be easy. But it dearly needs too. The station is overcrowded. We need something the likes of Grand Central on this site.

Comments like this make me glad many buildings like this are not being razed.

I keep opening this thread hoping to read that this eyesore and Madison Sq. Garden are being demolished to be replaced with a reproduction of the icon that was torn down so they could be built.

Yes I agree, it's a shame that this bus terminal was torn down for the inferior One Penn Plaza!

Rebuild the Penn Bus terminal!!!

(sarcasm)

Yeah, that is architecturally more interesting than yet another glass box.

(not sarcasm)

On Halloween, I bought out my One Penn Plaza costume, much to the delight of the building staff, who came out to see me in droves! Here's a few pics:

This pic is just awesome- the Building Manager herself came out, as well as the Chief Engineer!

About the weapons carried with this costume- the light saber and fiber optic whip were both electric blue, a nod to the building's cogeneration plant. I had a cool saber blade meant to look like it was made of pure lightning, but since it was a custom made piece and a bit pricy, I left it at home and just used a regular polycarb tube blade.

Here's one more pic, taken after I got home from a day at my local sci-fi con. Don't worry about the disgruntled looking kitty- he's just upset that my full face makeup job prevented him from giving me the enthusiastic noserubs he's so fond of:

Because I like most of you here, here's a bonus pic, Avengers fans will totally get it:

So I found this last night:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...c-s-penn-plaza

I wonder what it means for One Penn Plaza? I hope they don't end up doing some reclad that makes it unrecognizable.

I think that article is referring to the overhaul of Madison Square Garden. I don't think they're doing anything to this tower.

If they reclad One Penn, I hope they don't screw with its looks too much- those pinstripes need some polish, and the mismatched windows need replacing, but I hope they don't just slap some plain glass facade on there, devoid of features. That would suck
One Penn looks good in black, let's keep it that way. That and I'd hate to have to remake my robes, especially in an impractical color like white or light blue.
