I was also under the impression they the current conditions (including yempe) were updated once an hour on the hour (thought the updates often come a bit late). I was surprised so hear that this had changed, though I was thinking it was about time. ac888yow's explanation makes more sense.

I also know that the weather data used to update once an hour. He'd then go back inside and do the weather update. I used to spend a lot of time up there...

If it's still done the same way the 2100 data might have been from 2011, perhaps better explaining the huge drop. If it's a true drop of that magnitude in 11 minutes, that's nuts.
I believe during weather events like thunderstorms or high wind events they measure more frequently. I've seen weather.gc.ca report more frequently than hourly during those type of events. It is quite possible the temperature dropped that quickly in 11 minutes. I was sitting near a window an in about 15 minutes it went from high wind and rain to high wind and ice grains and finally to high wind and snow.

Yep. Whenever there's a drastic change in conditions, it'll get updated to the minute. Otherwise, Environment Canada gets updated hourly on the hour (on the 1/2 hour in Newfoundland!).

Cool. The MAX will be here sooner than expected. Now does that replace a 320 or an E90? If it's the latter, that's a nice upgauge in capacity for two flights/week.

I flew from YOW to IAD last week, with customs pre-clearance in Ottawa, and was surprised that there is no longer a need to complete a paper declaration form. It's all based on your input of just a few logistical details made at the computer kiosk, and your scanned passport (and biometric face-matching I assume) now. I inquired and the US official said that the process changed as of Nov 1, 2017. It was the fastest US border crossing I've ever experienced.

Upon my return to Canada (via YYZ) there was a similar process, with the familiar customs declaration being made entirely at a computer kiosk, and then I was directed to bypass the customs agent. Very fast. And I'm not a Nexus or TSA-Pre user.

It looks like before 16DEC that flight is served be a 320, but on/after 16DEC the 320 gets shifted to AC472/473 (which was previously an E90), so there is an overall capacity upgrade. It aligns with the busier winter travel season as well (all of ACs sun flights out of Ottawa start around that date).

Dreams Take Flight day, so tomorrow there will be a morning Rapidair served by the 763.

On a separate note, Sunwing actually sent a leased plane directly to YOW on Monday from Jetairfly in Belgium.

Probably sent directly here to operate today's WG flight to VRA.

It ran YOW-PUJ this morning, and is going to do YOW-YQG-VRA later this evening.

Cool. Is the YQG stop only until we hit peak season next month?

Next week it will run YOW-VRA direct (same flight number, WG266). Usually the first flights of the season get triangled, I believe VRA/CUN both got routed through YYZ last weekend.

Unrelated, a B752 carrying the Phoenix Coyotes will be here this evening and will stay through Saturday.

The first Jazz CR2 is now painted in the new livery.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPQD...ature=youtu.be

Apparently this was the last aircraft in the Jazz yellow maple leaf livery.

How many old Jazz livery aircraft are there left out there?

Thanks for posting this. Reminds me a little bit of the Delta CRJ's colour scheme. I personally loved the old Jazz red/green/yellow/orange liveries and will miss them.

I'm not sure how many are left, but I'd bet that there are more JZA aircraft with the new livery than the maple leaf one.

The freezing rain/snow caused AC466 and AC1221 to divert to BOS last night.

YOW's October Pax Stats are out and it follows the typical pattern - a small domestic gain (probably largely thanks to PD's first full month of flying to YFC and YSJ), a narrowing transborder loss and flat internationally.

Sector Oct-16 / Oct-17 / % Change
Dom: 337,213 / 344,840 / +2.3%
TB: 53,660 / 51,447 / -4.1%
Int'l: 18,079 / 18,025 / -0.3%
TTL: 408,952 / 414,312 / +1.3%

Sector / YTD 2016 / YTD 2017 / % Change
Dom: 3,078,659 / 3,182,220 / +3.4%
TB: 565,883 / 532,011 / -6.0%
Int'l: 332,106 / 323,966 / -2.5%
TTL: 3,976,648 / 4,038,197 / +1.5% <-- first time ever YOW has surpassed the 4 million mark by October

The airport's 12 month rolling total is finally over the 4.8 million mark for the first time ever:
12 Months Rolling / % Change vs Year End 2016
Dom: 3,782,793 / +2.8%
TB: 639,562 / -5.0% - I looked back at annual reports and 1999's count was 628k...BUT that represented 6% growth over 1998! So we're at the same level as 18 years ago
Int'l: 382,285 / -2.1%
TTL: 4,804,640 / +1.3%

Given WS' lacklusture Florida and sun destination schedule, I'll be curious to see how these two sectors fare over the winter.

It looks like AA is adding a third daily roundtrip from PHL starting May 4, 2018. Maybe we've finally stopped or at least slowed the transborder haemorrhaging.

Excellent and even better to see 'year-round' mentioned in the press release for the 3rd daily. This should mean that AA will finally offer an evening departure again...don't know for sure as the flight hasn't been loaded yet.

And guess what too? UA are going back to 3x/day on both YOW-IAD and YOW-EWR as of 09APR18! This assumes of course that these aren't just dummy placeholder schedules for beyond that date, but I doubt they are given these routes had both already been reduced to 2x by April 2017 and YOW-ORD continues to show 3x day, reflecting its continued cut on a mix of CRJs/ERJs.

This means that they finally have a morning departure again to IAD! Even though they're going from 2x CR7 to 3x ERJ, it's still a net gain of 20 seats/day on the route with a much better schedule, which in-turn, would likely produce higher overall loads. Similarly, YOW-EWR is back to ERJs from E70s, so again a small gain in seats, but the extra frequency should yield better overall loads.

Now if we could just get:
a) Get DL to up YOW-LGA to 2x/day; and
b) Have AA reinstate YOW-ORD 2x daily on E75s; we'd
Recover a lot of what we've lost in the past 3 years.

YQB gets AA back seasonally and AC just announced YEG-SFO, plus YUL-PIT & BWI, YYZ-OMA & PVD (seasonally) and YVR-SMF. So AC adds 2 brand-new US destinations, returns to PVD and adds a non-hub transborder route for the first time in eons. http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases...660735553.html
