SHANGHAI | Xujiahui Center | 1,210 & 722 FT | 70 & 43 FL

Prep work has started on Shanghai's new supertall. It will go up in the Xuhui District of Shanghai.

It will be paired with a 220m tower as well.

Whoa. The base looks pretty crazy.

I've demoted this one to High-rise & Supertall proposals. Will move this one back once we have more than just prep work going on.

Nice addition to Shanghai, is this classified as the tallest building underway there now that Shanghai Tower is nearly complete? I also wonder if the small building in the foreground will stay put.

Not a chance. I'm not living in Shanghai and I don't know details about this project but I can tell you that based on the way the Chinese government releases parcels for redevelopment there's no way that that building is going to be left standing. The Chinese government owns all land in China and people who "buy" real estate are only really renting it. That building would undoubtedly be part of the entire property (or part of another property but still up for redevelopment) and is probably only standing because there are residents who are holding out for a better deal (which they won't get)
