^ Love it. Very minimalist and non-fussy.

I noticed they show heavy rail in the underground station. The train set is blurry, implying motion, yet the doors are open. Maybe this is a way to up the system speed-- Don't actually stop at a platform, just sorta cruise past it with open doors and jump!

Well, this is not good.

FTA's LA Subway Enviro Review Was Insufficient, Judge Says

By Linda Chiem

"Law360, New York (February 1, 2016, 10:37 PM ET) -- A California federal judge tentatively ruled Monday that the Federal Transit Administration might not have properly considered the environmental effects of tunneling under a Beverly Hills high school before approving station locations for Los Angeles’ $5 billion subway expansion project..."

Maybe this is why ridership is down?

If look at where ridership was a year ago vs where it is today, would it be lower and if so could that be attributed to low gas prices?

Shocker.

The timing of this news is incredibly inconvenient as we're trying to build up support for the new transit tax measure, which will surely be another narrow victory or defeat.

and its disingenuous as well. The original report from the LA Times used 1985 as a base year, which was a huge anomaly due to Metro slashing bus fare that year to a real low rate. That really pushed up ridership. In general, its been growing since then and will obviously continue to go up with new lines opening up. However, Uber / Ridersharing and low gas prices have definitely reduced ridership. Its very easy and convenient to use Uber, especially in Downtown or Hollywood. Personally (and this probably goes for others in my building) use uber 3 - 4 times a week.

King Kill'em, overall ridership has declined relatively consistently since 2013, as can be seen on Metro's basic ridership stats page: https://www.metro.net/news/ridership-statistics/, so the recent drop in gas prices is likely a small contributor.

I find it a bit odd that the recent stories about Metro ridership rarely mention service disruptions due to maintenance work as a contributing factor. It's simply ridiculous that for the past few years the Red Line has run only every 20 minutes on weeknights after 8:30, with practically useless Purple Line service. Not to mention the frequent mid-day and weekend maintenance-related disruptions on the light rail lines that reduce headways to 24-30 minutes. This is far from world-class to say the least.

In some more optimistic news, Streetsblog has a look at expansion projects that will be getting some planning priority at Metro: http://la.streetsblog.org/2016/02/02...dy-initiative/

Meh. Those are basically the projects that will likely be on the ballot measure in November. Nothing new to see there.

The state of LA transit is in a very critical condition IMO; quite a bit of momentum has been lost since Measure J was defeated by the slimmest of margins in 2012. We absolutely need to pass Measure R2 (or whatever it will be called) so that we can start building some real rail projects sooner rather than later.

It would be so great if only 50% approval was needed to pass these transit measures.

Is LA actually going to install those guideways from the blind, which are best practice, or did the studio who put together the renders not realize ADA is extremely far behind when it comes to accommodating the blind?
