The Dbacks arent going to leave a 7 million+ person market that in 20 years will be a 10 million person market for Vegas.

Miss me with this nonsense. If the Coyotes arent even leaving the Dbacks most certainly are not.

Tell that too Oakland. Also, the Vegas nights were #12 in attendance last season to the Coyotes #29. A smaller area doesn't mean less attendance. Vegas also has a massive amount of tourism and would not have a problem filling a major league stadium of 36,000 quite regularly.

Oakland was a secondary team

The big money is in viewership and merch not asses in seats. I will bet 1000 dollars Dbacks arent going anywhere. And Im fairly certain theyll stay downtown.

This is why the Suns, who have awful attendance, are still profitable.

So you don't think they will sell merchandise in Vegas? Every single store I was in last March...including all the casino shops had Vegas Nights merchandise blowing out the door. That's what tourists buy. Anything and everything Vegas...from your cheap shot glasses to sports team merchandise. I'm not saying the Dbacks will go anywhere. But the fact is, they ARE checking out other places which means it is on the table if all else fails and they don't get what they want here.

It's still the tribe and north scottsdale

Vegas smoke screen. I still say they end up doing a deal with the tribe and end up in North Scottsdale. I would love for them to rehab Chase, including reducing the seating, and stay downtown but doubt that happens.

And right on queue, ABC 15 posted their take approximately 1 hour after I posted on here (even citing the same article I posted). I am now thoroughly convinced local media outlets shop us for local news

Yes, NBA has ridiculous tee vee rights contracts, presently.

NHL is different. They do rely on lot on attendance. Currently there's only limited coverage in the States by NBCSN; most of the NHL coverage is Canadian primarily through Sportsnet. Local rights are a plus and while market size is nice it's ultimately about eyeballs.

MLB is somewhere in between.

If they want to leave, fuck 'em. Arizona might be better off in the long run.

Although as a Reds fan, it would piss me off to no end that there'd be an MLB team in Nevada while Pete Rose (a piece of shit human being if there ever was one, to be honest) is still banned from baseball for gambling.

We might be better off in 2095, but not for more than a decade. Honestly, we will get a worse bottom-feeding team if the D-backs bolt.

I think the vast majority of sports fan really don't care if a team goes or leaves. They want some value and the occasional chance to chase a title. The structure of modern sports (esp. basketball) pretty much guarantees 8 teams will have a shot (4 realistically) and everyone else will be their fodder the rest of the season. If the D'backs wanna go, I say go. Their only reasonable option if they wanna stay is to co-fund redevelopment of that horrendous carapace this CF (smaller, deeper in ground, obviously stuff - come on it's a FANTASTIC location) OR move further east toward the action in Tempe. If they don't like those options go struggle in LV and how few "local" fans there will ever be at a game....ugh on professional sports!
