Same with Rome: if you lived there you would hear tons of complaintes... and being italian I assure that Rome is not seen as a city that offers a great quality of life: it's not a city that you find on "best city" or "best quality of life" lists.

Rome is not laid-back at all: in fact it's pretty hectic, stressful and chaotic.

Since the last update, they have expanded the stone about 60%. Just a little more to go. Once this opens, the whole plaza reconstruction is almost at the point to where its finished. It would be good to have that area not become a jungle in terms of spillover onto the street due to construction.

You can also see that the man on the screen is yelling because he too is frustrated with the time this has taken.

^^^^

Yeah Saturdays tend to be the worse for crowding in that area. Although for some reason, Tuesdays are really bad. Usually its always jammed, but Tuesdays seem to have a special insanity to them when it comes to the noise and gridlock.

In terms of the plaza, they are making good progress. Almost done. I'm hoping by late fall they will finish.

I always thought it was better on the weekends because of less traffic. But they can throw up an even on any day of the week seemingly unannunced. It throws everything into further chaos. I understand why someone wouldn't want to work there everyday. You'd be late a lot.

Dumb and Dumber seem to think the answer to overcrowding in Times Square might be to eliminate 10s of 1000s of square feet of plaza space. Because that will make it a more pleasant place of course......

http://www.streetsblog.org/2015/08/2...square-plazas/

It’s de Blasio and Bratton vs. the World on Times Square Plazas

Quote:
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton started things off when he said he’d like to remove the plazas to curb topless women and people in cartoon costumes hustling for tips in Times Square. “I’d prefer to just dig the whole darn thing up and put it back the way it was, where Broadway is Broadway and not a dead-end street,” Bratton told 1010 WINS.

Asked about Bratton’s comments, de Blasio didn’t reject the idea. “Commisssioner Bratton and I have talked about that option… That’s a very big endeavor, and like every other option comes with pros and cons,” he said. “So we’re going to look at what those pros and cons would be. You could argue that those plazas have had some very positive impacts. You could also argue they come with a lot of problems.”

I was just about to post this. Strong piece:

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...ogressive.html

DeBlasio is a moron and hopefully gets voted out of office after a term. He's what you get when you elect a union stooge and enough of the population wants to engage in identity politics. Bloomberg despite (or thanks to) his billions was more of a progressive than DeBlasio, in the true sense of the word, as opposed to demonstrating adherence to the Democratic Party's sacred cows.

That terrible woman Gale Brewer wants to ban topless girls from being in the square.

AND he wants to ban topless woman from also being the square.

This is America. We need to have the freedom to express ourselves. If woman want to do so, they have the right!

"The whole situation is a disaster, I think, for tourists and New Yorkers and the family friendly image," Manhattan borough president Gale Brewer told the Daily News.
Coming from a woman who's image causes blindness and psychological trauma. Reason the pic of her is small is to protect you guys from damage.

Remember, this is the same person who castrated Tower Verre.

How much longer are we stuck with this moron in City Hall? The city would be better off if DeBlasio literally did absolutely nothing.

OK, so DeBlasio sucks, but this discussion is silly. There's zero chance of DeBlasio tearing out the pedestrian zones in Times Square. If anything, they'll be expanded.

DeBlasio supports the pedestrian zones. He's paying for them (total costs are over $70 million). They're central to his Vision Zero initiative. They aren't even done yet. They're supported by his Transportation Commissioner, all the businesses in Times Square, and basically everyone. He has never voiced opposition to the zones. He's saying he wants the topless performers out of the plazas, and mentioned removing the zones as one of a multitude of options/threats for fixing the situation. He's a pandering politico hack, but he isn't an idiot.

The media just latched on to that one possibility, and ignored the other 20 options for removing the topless performers.

Why there is gridlock:

Taken today via Earthcam:

In NY, even the excavators block the box.

Can't wait for the plaza to finish. Taking forever, and it causes traffic and walking hell in the area.
