Beartooth Highway is a high way

Two weeks ago my gf and I drove down through Yellowstone and across the Beartooth Highway (in the Absaroka and Beartooth ranges) through Cooke City to Red Lodge, Montana. The BT Highway tops out at about 10,974 feet (3,345 m), and contains a set of switchbacks wherein the road gains 3,000 feet in 12 miles. It's a spectacular drive. Enjoy. (Sorry about the size of the pics--ctrl+scroll to see 'em smaller!)

This little Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel accosted my girlfriend, but left when it realized we had no food.

The smoke to the south was from the Gunbarrel Fire near Cody, Wyoming. It had been smoldering for a few days, but really blew up that afternoon as we were driving.

Pilot Peak is a glacial "horn" that stands 11,708 ft (3569 m) tall

These last pics are from just north of Bozeman along Highway 86.

I remember driving that a few years ago. Beautiful, but definitely some white knuckle corners when you get really high.
