To all fans of Trump Tower Chicago. On Tuesday July 31st, we will be pouring "foam" concrete. I have not seen this done yet, but hear that it is interesting. It will be on Wabash Ave, infrom of the Helix and main entrance to the building. I will more than likely be up on the 39th floor that we will be pouring as well, so I will not be able to get any photos. If anyone can, It should be interesting to see.

On a project like this, how far down do they anchor the tower cranes?

That foam is used in some places and the concrete FOAM is used on bigger areas that don't have walls to contain it. Also, KNIGHTWING. The Tower cranes are not anchored down at all. They are inside climbers. Which means they climb inside the building.

is the foam just to make for a soft path? Is it for landscaping purposes? It seems like it wouldn't last that long if its just foam. I've never heard of anything like that before (stacking foam so deep)

This building seems to be going up soooo quickly! and once it gets to the next section, it will just go even more quickly. for an impatient guy such as myself, its a very satisfying thing

I believe that the huge foam blocks in the above photo are used as sub-structure in landscaping. They were used extensively at Millenium Park.

The foam blocks pictured are in a staging area, this is probably not their final destination or configuration.

Please more info on "foam concrete" which may not have anything to do with these blocks or Styrofoam.

The foam BLOCKs will be covered with concrete. If you look out in front, they are preparing for the foam poured concrete.

Are we talking about a special kind of concrete, or just pouring it over styrofoam ?
Example http://www.alliedfoamtech.com/Appconc.htm

The large white blocks may well be covered with concrete, but not where they are

This Blue stuff looks like it will be covered today.

Man, some parts of that have a ton of bar! I am trying to figure out why this element would require so much... time will tell, or perhaps JR will speed up time for me.
