Hey folks - kind of a change in topic. Whenever I move, one of my first quests is to find a decent place for take-out Chinese food. I must confess I don't go for the exquisite steamed fish type dishes, but I am not a pork ball in fluorescent orange sauce either. Somewhere in-between. Having said all that I recall a white shack (no seating) I think on the corner of Dewdney and Pasqua that I liked in the early 80's. Anybody remember the name?

Yes, it was called the O.B. Kitchen. It was adjacent to the Nortown bowling lanes (which was, at some time long ago, the Nortown Theatre). O.B. stood for Oriental Bowl, which had a restaurant on the 1200 block of Albert Street. Yes, their food was quite good, especially their egg rolls. "White shack" is a good description of it!

O.B. Kitchen had a location in University Park Mall basically since it was build... looks like it's changed names recently (their SkipTheDishes 'website' is still live, but you can't place an order anymore).

We used to grab fries from there, after hitting Acme Video for a couple movies & Klein's for a fountain drink ($0.63 - any size).

Don't forget the pizza buns from Bunsmaster Bakery and beef jerky from the butcher shop (name escapes me) in that strip mall. Those were the days!

Oh, man - you're right! The glory days of the University Park Mall... long gone, but not forgotten.

OK. Now that I see the name, I remember. Also remember the restaurant on North Albert. I agree with the comment on egg rolls. Other than my New York years, I haven't found a better egg roll yet.

Funny thing, all this made me recall for a brief period in the 1970's when one of the best hamburgers in town was a Colonelburger from KFC. Flip side: I doubt that I ever had one without a number of beers first.

Bunsmaster had a great thing going in the years that grocery store buns were garbage. Once grocery stores started selling decent buns, they were toast.

Master Steaks on South Albert (and North Albert - where Last Straw is) was fantastic. Burgers were great & the fries were dynamite.

The Tower Gardens photo, is that Balfour in the background?
Milton Heights is not a familiar name.

Yes that's Balfour. Miller was not yet built. Milton Heights is the current name of Tower Gardens since the reno about 10 years ago
