Hate it or like it, this building serves its purpose and makes an impact on the skyline. It ain't even that bad. It's just bland.

Well, it is the worst highrise downtown, so I would say it is pretty bad. If you don't think this is a bad skyscraper in New York, then what is?

You would think with the amount of money Verizon makes from FIOS, Cellular and Home Phone, they would invest a couple of billion and make a nice new Glass tower and replace this ugly thing.

The ugliest tower in the city by far is the AT&T Long Lines Building. We can all talk crap about the Verizon tower, but this is a giant eyesore that should not be forgotten.

It sucks too because of its proximity to the great towers of architectural significance.

The Verizon sign is so tacky. It really needs to go. This redesign…. well, it's marginally better, I guess. But it's like bringing the building up from a 2 out of 10 to a 3 out of 10. It's still awful. If the Verizon sign was taken down, it might actually be a 5. Such a blight on the skyline, especially compared to the beautiful buildings that surround it.

What purpose? Being a giant commercial for Verizon, or ruining views of downtown from Brooklyn?

So…. if this isn't bad, then what is? It makes the MetLife building look like the Sistine Chapel.

Are you kidding?? This is the most beautiful building in NYC. They can even demolish the whole city, but they cannot touch this building!

Yes, yes, it's funny when you say ugly buildings are beautiful. Your trolling has been noted.

AT&T is bad, but honestly, I don't think it is as bad as Verizon. Verizon's location is even worse than AT@Ts as well because it is so prominent in west looking views of downtown. I see it pop up in way more pictures and movies than AT@T.

I was not trolling. I really think those buildings are beautiful.

Why couldn't they just continue that new glass strip all the way down? I like that they want to preserve some of the original architecture, but just replacing some squares of the facade with glass doesn't look good.
Or just leave the damn thing alone and give it a clean, which is what should be done.

The AA&T Building is an icon of NYC and of its style and it should be listed as a historic monument.

NYC’s Finance Department to lease 175K sf at former Verizon Building

Quote:
The city’s Department of Finance is planning to lease 175,000 square feet of office space at Sabey Data Centers’ repositioning of the former Verizon Building at 375 Pearl Street in the Financial District.

The DOF, led by Commissioner Jacques Jiha, is seeking final approval to occupy the 26th through 30th floors at the 1.1 million-square-foot tower Dave Sabey’s Seattle-based firm bought a controlling interest in along with Young Woo and Associates in 2011 for $120 million. A CBRE leasing team led by Gerry Miovski, Gregg Rothkin and Zakery Snider referred questions to a Sabey spokesperson, who confirmed the deal and said the building’s façade renovation should be completed later this year. Asking rents in the building range from $45 to $51 per square foot.

Rising 32 stories at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge, 375 Pearl is often derided as one of the most aesthetically offensive buildings in the city, with a near monolithic limestone exterior interrupted only by small strips of black windows that, for a long time, were boarded up from the inside. Sabey and his team are in the middle of a renovation that will remove portions of the building’s exterior and replace them with a curtain-wall structure.

As a result of its former life as a telephone switching center, 375 Pearl is one of the best-connected buildings in the city, and is engineered to withstand a nuclear blast.

Last year, the NYPD leased 18,000 square feet on the building’s 22nd floor.

There's an old fallout shelter in Newark NJ downtown, and that's also good place for when the revolution occurs, but 375 Pearl is by Chinatown, and so, when the war begins, I can stock up on $1 Lo-Mein from the street vendor on Mott Street. Enough lo mein to last me years. I just hope 375 Pearl has a good ventilation system because those Chinese spices can cause chaos later in the day.

But if your stuck in Newark, be sure to stock up on the Jamaican food on Market Street. And a couple of pounds of bud of course. Have to have something to mellow you out as the fires rage above you.

Shouldn't they at least update the Verizon logo to match the new version?

good god, that render. they are going through all the trouble...just for that??

i thought it was originally supposed to be all glassed over and would have looked at least...ok?

so instead they value engineered the ugliest building downtown to look just as ugly as before, except now more lit up. great.

the att&t long lines bldg is fine and actually pretty swell as these bldgs go. it even rather decently keeps itself in the background. otoh this verizon joint is an unfortunate in your face cheap pos eyesore. it's interesting to compare just how different both of these structures are. like night and day.
