There is (almost) no such thing as an Ontarian identity. As people have mentioned before, Ontario is Canada and that’s about it. Across Southern Ontario one could make the point that Windsor is the “Canadian part” of Detroit, Toronto is Canada’s metropolis, Ottawa is Canada’s capital, Niagara Falls is the Canadian side of an international attraction, etc. Franco-Ontarians obviously have their own identity.

It's simply the British Flag Red Ensign design adorned with a few maple leaves - easily mistaken or confused with Canada's former flag from the first part of the last century.
I'm not sure how this could possibly engender any sort of pride or identification, so I'm skeptical of the claim that Ontarian's are the culturally dominant or noble "default Canadian's"

In Manitoba, the only other province to retain the archaic red ensign design, at least there's a visible buffalo to denote that the region was once populated with thousands of the animals across vast stretches of its southern prairies.

With Ontario, there's nothing to identify with in the provincial flag... so it doesn't surprise me to hear that many in this province would opt for the Canadian flag (red maple design) over its own provincial flag. Ultimately, when deciding which flag (or flags) to fly, I believe it's the banal simplicity of Ontario's provincial flag that results in it rarely being used outside of provincial government buildings.
We don't need a flag to inculcate provincial pride in our people in Ontario.

First, we have the trillium, a symbol that means everything to Ontarians. Finally, we have the motto, uttered each and every day by each and every Ontarian with great pride, "loyal she remains".

No flag is needed for our provincial pride is readily apparent to all.

Lio is right I am not a “real” Ontarian. My observations could be inaccurate but to this day I can’t say I have felt that the Ontarian identity was a thing. It is more of a “Ontario is a great province” than “I am proud to be Ontarian” thing. But again, coming from Quebec...

Makes sense, just another Quebecer tryna dampen Ontarian nationalism.

Yes thanks to those humongous "monument".flags they've put up in various locations.

I have almost never seen one on a private residence though.

Car stickers sometimes.

I think there was a situation a while back where someone in either Manitoba or Ontario flew the other province's flag, and it was a few months before someone noticed?

Yeah you don't see them very much up here. The only places flying the Franco-Ontarien flag are community centres and schools with French immersion programmes.

I saw the Franco-Manitoban flag flying out in front of the Legislature lately... not sure if it's because there is a special week/month going on, but it's been out there for a while

I never really see it anywhere else, though.

Really? Where are they all? I'm not sure that I've ever seen a Cascadian flag in the wild in the parts of Vancouver and area that I've been around.

I would list the provinces that display their flags the most in this order.

1. Quebec/Newfoundland
2. Nova Scotia
3. P.E.I / B.C
4. Alberta
5. Ont/Man/Sask/N.B/Yukon/N.W.T/Nunuvet

As for provinces that display the Canadian flag the most, I'm not to sure but I've always found that you see more Canadian Flags in in Quebec then elsewhere across the country probably for the same reason they fly so many Quebec flags. Both act more as a political statement then you would find in other provinces.

I've always found that was a pretty decent looking flag.

The glorious Line-Spangled Banner of Lethbridge. I'd consider giving it a pass if it was designed using the earliest versions possible of computer art programs - must've looked like a cool idea at the time.

Indeed. Otherwise it is just wretched.

And this one, based on Q-bert, is just sad:

Even Ontario's slogan "Yours to discover" leaves the person reading it to fill in the blanks and figure out what Ontario's about, rather than giving an Ontario identity upfront.

That is amazing

Of course I have to acknowledge our 'worst city flag in Canada' entry
