I hope it's redesigned.

I predict more very tall buildings coming to this area next year.

I can't remember why these towers were given an exemption, but that area supposedly has a height limit of 157 metres... no towers taller than TIFF are allowed, and so far, all proposals taller have been chopped down or cancelled. 19 Duncan may break through where many others have failed... or possibly the 400 twins...

I made a new drawing of M&G West, hopefully this is what gets built, and not some watered down POS...

They are too tall but, are deserving of some leeway. I did express worry that Mirvish would flip it to another developer who would replace Gehry for someone undeserving of that leeway. Of course, I was quite adamant against three towers on these properties. I think I may have suggested two taller towers instead. It was a long time ago.

Edit**

I forgot. They set a new precedence for all developers to use at the OMB. It hasn't panned out. Worse. They rather cram density on top of density into a 157 metre envelope.

All that said, maybe I had a change of heart. I don't recall. I leave it to you to rummage through the post history.

Feathered Friend posted these in the Vancouver section, they are from an Urban Design Panel meeting this week:

The project looks great at should start to move forward now that the municipal hurdles are clearing up.

Vancouver seems to be the one place that consistently pulls off curved glass so I'm confident in that one turning out as good as it looks.

That Vancouver proposal is a beauty. Any idea on figures for height/floors.
(Ps: can they build it in Toronto instead?!)

Ya it's 57 floors / 178.5M tall.

Sure you could build it in Toronto, but at that height it'd just get lost in a sea of towers. It's located at one of the highest points in Downtown Vancouver so it should appear to be the tallest in the skyline even though it won't be.

Guessing when viewed from the water it will have around 220 meters of prominence?

Good guess, 218 metres according to the rezoning application. Not sure what Shangri-La is but I'd imagine it's about the same.

Great projects to hear from Vancouver.

Great to hear the M & G towers are further along, I'll wait to be excited until I see demolition start in about two years or so....

Some local media (CP24) mentioned that today The One (306 m) officially began construction.....seemingly a groundbreaking ceremony.

Globe and Mail......article pertaining to The One

We've been starving so long for a supertall, that the reality of such a project will keep the attention of some of us skyscraper geeks for quite some time, till it gets built.
