Oh man, I think I liked the gas station better. Who's hack work is this" It sort of brings "bad design" to a new level.

Click on the residential tab and have a gander at the multi-family that's at the top of the page. Was that giant turd ever built? I don't recognize it.

Vari was fired a long time ago and replaced with April Maifield of Legat Architects that has designed all of the Hyatt Places in Chicago. The base is currently a nice read brick and everything above the first floor will be metal panels similar to the one Hyde Park. The glass will also look very different. https://www.legat.com/work/

i mean those look...better but i cant say anything from this Hyatt chain looks attractive. im sure a lot is being dictated by the brand. still dont understand what about this is supposed to be "millennial friendly" or what that translates to aside from "budget".

are there any new renderings after the other guy got canned? the article suggests new ones would be released last summer.

but anythings an improvement over the first 2

Yep. At least it would be an available parcel for development. This eyesore will be there for decades at least.

I could design a better building using MS Paint.

More info on the project on Archer between Wood and Paulina. It will be 168 total condos over what looks like at least 7 buildings. The first building was issued a new construction permit the other day and it did include plans for retail. So hopefully it will be like what was built at Halsted & 26th and a handful of good, authentic Chinese food will go in there

Also at 3211 S Archer will be another building at 34 units with basement parking

Loving how this corridor is starting to develop.

As for the projects I posted: I'm impressed you all were able to figure out which ones they were so quickly lol

Thanks!

Good news to report:

Both the North/Western Pizza Hut and the Bloomingdale and Western Mobil are no longer with us...

Western between North and Milwaukee has suddenly become quite urban indeed.

I made this image my new desktop and now it's completely destroying my productivity as I stare at all the cool new infill in the foreground. It took me a while to place that glassy blue-green corner building in the left center.
Finally figured out it's the Aldi redevelopment at Milwaukee and Leavitt. Looks good there.

Armitage west of Milwaukee is filling in nicely too.

^it's crazy how big that Home Depot on North Ave looks in that picture. The giant orange band looks like it would take up 3 city blocks from this view... very out of proportion for a single retail store!
