  • December 2017 groundbreaking, summer 2019 opening.

This project site was previously called Charter Square North. It wasn't developed because they were waiting for an anchor tenant before construction would begin. FNB recently completed purchase of Yadkin Financial which was a large community bank in the area.
Woot! Drove through downtown today and looked wistfully at the site ... not having seen this announcement.

20 floor mixed use tower approved by city council for Hillsborough and N Harrington Street in downtown Raleigh. Will include retail, office, and residential floors. They already own the site and need to pre-lease 40,000 sq feet of office space to start construction, which they hope to break ground by Q1 2018.

This is super dope! Finally a downtown Raleigh venue to host sports and concerts! Very nice and soccer is also huge in the area anyway. Makes sense.

I would still consider it a bit of a long shot. Right now North Carolina FC (currently a NASL team) and Carolina Courage (women's league) play in Cary at WakeMed park which seats around 10,000. This plan has a lot of moving parts to it, including the state tearing down a number of old buildings they are wanting to replace (you can see the replacements rendered behind the stadium).

City Gateway, 10 floors, which will include the Exploris K-8 school and offices. This is from a revised site plan submitted to the city. Construction should begin later this year. The last rendering shows the massing of a future 20+ floor building on the site. The design features a solar roof and other features that will allow it to generate more energy than it consumes.

Raleigh is one of the most underrated capital cities out there -- looking good!

Was Raleigh awarded an MLS team?

The MLS bid is still ongoing. Raleigh is a longshot, but in better position than some cities that have effectively taken themselves out of the running like St. Louis and Charlotte.

Since this is a Raleigh-Durham thread, any forthcoming pics of downtown Durham's new tower? I was told a couple weeks ago that it's topped off.

Thanks for the update.

I would think RDU would be the perfect region for MLS expansion. Long history of interest in youth leagues and college teams. UNC women's domination of the sport for as long as I can remember alongside competitive men's college teams all in the Triangle region.
