So has anyone seen any of the renderings? Are there any out yet?

UT ready to talk about Austin's medical school plans with you

Colin Pope
Editor-
Austin Business Journal

It's arguably the biggest project to hit this town's economy in decades, and tonight those who are leading the effort to build Austin's Dell Medical School will gather in a room — and you're invited.

Dirt will turn about a year from now, students will start arriving in 2016 and this city's 21st century teaching hospital will be open for business in 2017, according to the plan

Other than site plans with place holders for structures, I do not think any actual "renderings" are available. Furthermore, if I am not mistaken, they (the med school stakeholders) are still trying to get the height restrictions either lessened (i.e., providing the ability to build taller structures) or removed completely.

Better to get rid of the height restrictions so they can go up and save the land for more open space. A lot of people are still fuming about them changing Red River and fiddling with the park.

Where is that "like" button? I second your thoughts, Kevin.

I thought UT being part of the State of Texas were/are allowed to do just about anything they want! Are they just playing nice now and following the codes of Austin? They do need to be allowed to build a cluster of medical buildings taller and save some land for unknown future needs.

Outside of CVC restrictions which are state law, I also thought they could do whatever they damned well pleased without spending any time entertaining City of Austin officials.

Agreed, there are already plenty of high rises on campus. There are some nice green spaces around there we could lose if we see 20 3 to 6 story buildings.

Did anyone go to..... or have info on... the public meeting on the Med School this week.?
Also, anyone heard just where the Tennis center will go.
Or real info on what will replace the Erwin Center.... and where that will go?
Speculation aside, I am curious as to what UT has planned. ( Can't imagine a move this big would not already have solutions for moving such a large facility!)

Central Health seeks ideas for Brackenridge campus

Central Health is soliciting proposals from planning and development consulting firms on possible uses of the University Medical Center Brackenridge facility, which will go out of use as a hospital once Seton Healthcare Family opens its new teaching hospital as part of the Dell Medical School campus.

15th St Construction

Wow, they're saying the street construction btwn MLK and 15th scheduled to be completed by Dec '14:

http://buildingatx.com/2013/11/what-...ical-district/

Arrows in the attach (pg 20) below show a hard dogleg at 15th. That sucks. Longterm, is the plan to straighten out RR extend further south of 15th, or is that a repurpose of the existing drive cutting through Brack? Don't understand pages 18-20:

Long-term, I think the plan is to demolish Brackenridge and replace it, as seen in the image below:

The road will go straight through what they replace Brackenridge with.

What do y'all think?

The Education and Administrative Building is interesting with it's distinctly different designs on each side of the building. I like it.

Idk, I think it looks cool. Can you imagine being the last floor looking down while walking down the stairs.

It does sort of remind me of an older style. It kind of reminds me of the Ernest O. Thompson Building at 9th & Colorado.
