Yeah One World Trade Center is a perfect fit for the 21st century although I wish 9/11 never happened.

Oh god, the latest pictures are killing me. From the sheer awesomeness, that is. Two months til I get to visit NYC again -- I am soooooo excited to see what 1 WTC looks like then! I don't care if steel is still going up (altho I am sure they will have just finished that by the time I get there - not that many floors left!) or if the glass is still stalling then. I never had the chance to see the original twin towers in person, plus I was born about 14 years after the original towers were done being built (if I correctly recall 1971 as being the year the original towers were finally topped out - I know they didn't have the grand opening until early 1973 though).

It has made me so happy to have had the opportunity to come to NYC and see, for myself, the rebuilding of the complex. Even better that I'm coming back again (and I plan on coming back again for new years!) so soon.

As for the 'ground zero' name - I agree, the media needs to be informed of that. Lol. I remember reading somewhere a number of years ago that when the complex was still essentially ground zero, that the New Yorkers hated when people would call it that. So I stopped calling it that then. Now, when that name comes up in conversation with someone else, I have to remind them - it's really not ground zero anymore, they began rebuilding years ago. And there are - GASP! - BUILDINGS there now! And a park! It's not a literal hole in the ground anymore! The only holes that exist now are the reflecting pools at the park.

So - let's hear it for the WTC!! Yeah!

Somehow I can see 3 WTC from my apartment but not 1 WTC. Somehow it gets perfectly blocked by another building.

I remember when they first got steel off the ground

When glass started getting installed

When 1 WTC finally passed 7 WTC

When it hit 1000 feet

Its come so far and still has so far to go. Truly a momentous building.

^Love it!

The most recent rendering by dbox, now depicting glass fins at the base, they've improved the reflections in the curtain wall glass.

Such a silly waste of engineering work now that the base is just a square. It is what it is, I guess. I'll reserve final judgment until I see the finished product, but I can't help but feeling the LED backlit base is going to look kitschy in 10 years.

\/\/\/ Awesome.
