Blues in Hamilton
I get an email from time to time from a web site called "Travel n Blues".
The latest one has an article called "Hamilton – Blues in the Hammer'.
Quote:
For better or worse Hamilton has lost that mantle of gritty industrialism but not its “no nonsense” working class attitude. From the ashes of industrial dominance has sprung a surprisingly creative core. “Hammer” Culture has spread out across that city affecting a resurgence of creative institutions to the pride and delight of residents and visitors alike.
Blues Music has deep roots in Hamilton and appropriately so. Richard Newell, Canada’s King Biscuit Boy, grew up in Hamilton and is said by many to have been a major influence on the Canadian Blues Music scene. His stage name was taken from the King Biscuit Time, an early American blues radio broadcast. He was given the name by Ronnie Hawkins while he was part of Hawkins’ back-up band in the 1960’s. Newell was most prominent as the leader of the band Crowbar.
