NEXT BREAK GROUND FOR TOWER HEKLA BY JEAN NOUVEL

The Journal du Dimanche (JDD) reports that expected shortly the laying of the cornerstone for tower Hekla in the business district of La Défense in Paris. Jean Nouvel trusts that the “curse of Defense” that haunts him for over thirty years has ended.

“I’ve never managed to build for the defense, he sighs. I finished second in the competition of the Ark [launched in 1982 by François Mitterrand]. In 1989, I had to make the tower without end, a skyscraper of 425 meters high, the models have been all over the world, but that has been abandoned, “says Jean Nouvel.

“And then there was the Signal Tower in 2008, the first high-rise mixed … swept away by the crisis. That’s a lot anyway! “That’s why the tower Hekla is particularly close to his heart.” I’m confident. There should not be any problem “continues Jean Nouvel.

The Jean Nouvel-designed tower will dramatically change the skyline of La Défense. Upon completion of the project, the site will provide a completely new space within La Défense, offering the largest green park in the area and creating a link between the business district and the Town of Puteaux.

The main bridge surrounding the site will be transformed into a pedestrian path. The outstanding location gives great visibility and fantastic views to and from west of the capital. HEKLA is expected to be completed in 2019.

Location: Paris-La Défense, France
Architect: Jean Nouvel
Developer: Hines
Net Rentable Area: 75,997 sq. m.
Year: 2019

Reminder.

The building site displays some additional renderings that would be true to the final product.

And there'll be some extra student housing nearby the office tower.

No legal appeal against the project. Jean Nouvel seems to be getting luckier these days.
Construction is said to begin next year and should be completed by 2021.

How many towers is Paris going to make that poor man design before they actually build one?

^ He's not really the guy to pity over here, though.
By the way, he'll also have his Duo towers built.

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=199032

But these are not at la Défense and I don't expect them to be the landmark this Hekla tower would be if it was neatly built.

Highrise construction is resuming over la Défense. It seems we'll have 4 office towers, including at least 2 merely speculative under construction as of 2017 over la Défense alone, and I'm wondering how the district market will take up all that additional office space, cause it's not like we'd be in a totally thriving economy yet.

More renderings, since I've been pretty excited at this thing.

I find it a little fat as seen from the east and the west, assuming the district is yet hardly profitable enough to build any slim office supertall. However, the work to the façade should mitigate that flaw.

I think the 22-floor building is meant for usually broke students for real, so rents may be moderated by the local administration.

The district is supposed to host more and more student facilities. Possibly some way to have them partly immersed in a business-like routine straight from college.

What's bolded seems completely impossible. They must be mistaking. Unless we're by far, hands down the total world champion of construction, but I doubt local engineering would be that advanced.

There are a 49-story office tower and a 22-story student residence to build, eh. Some work at ground level, too. Just as usual. So the cost of the whole project must be closer to half a billion euros than to 125 million.

Yeah I thought so too.... Never seen a skyscraper costing at least less than 300 million euros

This tower is bad-ass.

Woah, I hadn't figured the 2 buildings would manage these car lanes at ground level. First rendering above looks great!

However, I think only the shorter student housing building is officially under construction at the moment. That's yet something, a nice treat for local students.

The site of the office tower proper is in a preliminary stage. Actual construction is expected to follow later this year.
