The center of Saint Denis will become a hub of the Paris tram network with three lines serving it.
Work at Marché de Saint-Denis

Marché de Saint-Denis is the first or last station of the line and it will provide an interchange with the T1.
T1 at Marche de Saint-Denis

Work at Gare de Saint-Denis

In this picture we see the tracks of the T8 crossing the tracks of the T1.
This may sound usual in many cities but it will be the first time that two tram lines will do it in Paris.

Maire de Montrouge

Montrouge and Bagneux have the largest network of quarries in the Paris metropolitan area.
This makes the extension work more difficult.
The second part of the extension (Mairie de Montrouge to Bagneux) was redesigned because of the numberous quarries.

Some pictures of work near Mairie de Montrouge.

Cool!

I remember reading about the Line 7bis which was built in a gypsum quarry. The underground stations are standing on stilts (this is Danube).

Jean Nouvel to renovate train hub in heart of Paris
By Bryan Pirolli | January 23, 2012

PARIS – The historic train station, Gare d’Austerlitz, is on board to be renovated by Jean Nouvel starting this year. The 600 million euro project, designed to upgrade the station and its surroundings, is projected to continue through 2020.

The Gare d’Austerlitz is one of Paris’s six main train stations. Originally built in 1840, it serves two metro lines, one Paris regional rail, and multiple national trains to the southwest of France. With 23 million passengers per year, the SNCF, France’s railway company, hopes that the new train station will not only facilitate transportation via new high speed lines, but also rejuvenate the neighborhood.
[...]
Gare d’Austerlitz will welcome a new high speed TGV train to Lyon by 2025, making it an even more important transport hub. Brézet said that SNCF is hoping for 50 million travelers per year by 2030, thanks in part to 15,000 more suburban trains.

SNCF inaugurates rebuilt Paris St Lazare station
21 March 2012

GUILLAUME Pepy, president of French National Railways (SNCF), today marked the completion of 10 years of work when he inaugurated the rebuilt St Lazare station in Paris. With 1600 trains and 450,000 passengers a day, St Lazare is the second busiest station in France.
The Euros 250m scheme was a public-private partnership between SNCF, which invested Euros 90m, and Klépierre which provided the remaining Euros 160m. Spie Batignolles was the main contractor for the work.

The project involved excavating 20m below the station, which continued to function throughout the work, to create three new levels beneath the existing two subterranean levels. One of the new levels provides a new interchange with the five metro lines and RER Line E which serve St Lazare. The other two are for car parking. The station also features a 200m-long glass-covered passenger circulation area. Below this there are two levels with 80 shops and restaurants.

St Lazare has been equipped with 300 passenger-information screens, and 21 escalators and lifts.

Before the station was more like a maze of dark corridors instead of a big and bright station passenger hall.

True, this is a big improvement.

What surprised me the most was that they opened TWO Starbucks coffee inside the station !!!
There were already three shops next to the station (more if you dare walking few hundred meters).

Starbucks? I'd rather go to Le Bal...

St-Lazare looks beautiful. I saw it in December before construction was fully finished. The aboveground parts were amazing, but the Metro passageways were still under construction. I walked into an RER entrance and the plaster on the walls was still damp.

Why do the announcements on Ligne 1 exclude Spanish as one of the languages when Ligne 14 had French, English, and Spanish, or have they changed 14 to French, English, German, and Japenese too?

Languages are different according the line.

Line 1 = French, English, German, and Japanese
Line 3 = French, English and Italian
Line 4 = French, English and Spanish
Line 5 = French, English and German
Line 14 = French, English and Italian

The line 14 used to have Spanish instead of Italian but as the line serve Gare du Lyon (with train from Italy), they changed it.

Rush hour, line A style: an overcrowded train every minute. By the way, it may seem a dumb detail, I know, but I think they need to change these old ass screens still in use in the line A stations. Isn't it exposed enough? The more recent displays feel more comfortable and simply look far sexier.
