The website Metropole about Paris transport released an article about extention

What I see is truly interresting, instead of building and opening 2 km of tunnel and 2 stations for 2012 (as it was planned first) they will build 4 km of tunnel and a sole new station. This will avoid the problems of funding for the other stations.
Initially the whole extention project is 3 new station to Mairie d'Aubervilliers but the tunnel will go 1 km to La Courneuve Aubervilliers RER station. (This kilometer will be used as train park)
Officially nothing is planned but it seem difficult to not to consider a fourth station here.

Tunnel under in construction

The everything inside this drawing is u/c but only the part between Porte de la Chapelle and Proudhon - Gardinoux should open in 2012.

Transfer stations between Metro and RER outside Paris should be more numerous.
That would help connect Paris and its inner suburbs.
Too bad it's taking that long, or, in some cases, it's so poorly done.

I agree, for the northern RER B, it could really change in the ten next years.

We can imagine
- La Plaine Stade de France (Metropherique/Arc Express inner suburbs metro ring)
- La Courneuve Aubervilliers (M12)
- Le Bourget (M7) and Grande Ceinture tram train (Outer ring line)

Imagine with all these connection how the worst districts of Paris could be improved, especially economically.
This area is full of industrial warehouse and wastle land, so it is easy to build many housing and office buildings.

With the RER B nord+, the frequency in the northern RER B will increase and the renovation of train, the RER B will have a better capacity.

It is official, the extention of the RER E will be an underground tunnel between Saint Lazare and Nanterre (near la Defense), after this line will use existing track to Mantes la Jolie.

There is three new underground stations planned.
Porte Maillot
Under the roundabound of Porte Maillot this station, connection with the metro line 1 and RER C

La Defense
Under the CNIT, connection with the RER A, metro line 1, suburban trains and light rail T2.

Nanterre-la Folie
Located in an area under in development.

Porte Maillot is a big bus drop-off point for people using Paris Beauvais airport (Ryanair), no? I remember going to one of the junctions on the Peripherique to get out to the airport the first time I visited.

Yes, Coach from Beauvais airport come here.
Porte Maillot is also an important business location as the western edge of Paris CBD and it where is located Paris main convention center.

Line E heads west again
17 Mar 2009
Railway Gazette

FRANCE: The proposed extension of Paris RER Line E into the western suburbs is back on the cards, after Ile-de-France transport authority STIF decided to revive the project. RFF has commissioned Systra to undertake technical studies for a route serving La Défense and Mantes-la-Jolie.

When the EOLE (Est-Ouest Liaison Express) project was launched in the 1980s, the intention was to connect up SNCF’s suburban services from the termini at Paris Est and Saint-Lazare. The first stage of Line E was completed in July 1999, when Est suburban services were diverted through a 1·7 km tunnel to a temporary terminus at Haussmann Saint-Lazare.

And there things remained. No work was started on the second phase, which was originally expected to open in 2006. This would have joined the Saint-Lazare suburban network at Batignolles, just beyond Pont Cardinet. From here services were intended to run to Versailles on the north-south line through La Défense.

The original route has now been dropped in favour of a direct tunnel from Haussmann to La Défense via Porte Maillot, paralleling Line A. The pioneering RER line is now handling more than 1 million passengers/day, with flows of 55 000 passengers/h at peak times leading to severe overcrowding. With further office developments planned around La Défense over the next few years, STIF is concerned that Line A simply will not be able to cope.

West of La Défense, Line E services are envisaged as taking over the Line A branch from Nanterre to Sartrouville and Poissy, continuing over an upgraded SNCF route along the Seine valley to Mantes-la-Jolie. La Défense – Mantes would have eight trains/h, with a 35 min journey time. Line A would continue to serve Cergy-Pontoise and St-Germain-en-Laye, but having two branches instead of three would allow higher frequencies to both destinations.

With Systra expected to complete its work this year, STIF plans to launch public consultation in 2010. Construction would begin in 2012, with the Line E extension opening around 2018.

This is a very interesting thread indeed.

One question :
Why is there no standard color in the Parisian network ?
Several trains, trams and métro's do have different colors.
I know the colors of the RATP are under a license but still they use different styles ?

All the RATP non RER rolling stock use the same green and white livery.
RATP RER use the blue, white and red livery.

Most SNCF RER train use it but the recently refurbished train have a dark blue transilien livery.

As I said all non RER RATP rolling stock have the same color, it is the same for the tram T1, T2 and T3 have a green and white lively.
Anyway the T4 use the dark blue transilien livery because this line is owned by the SNCF.

What a great thread! (Quel grand thread!)

The speed, efficiency, and interconnectiveness of the Paris mass transit network is amazing...much better than anything in the US, that's for sure.
(La vitesse, l'efficiencie, et l'interconnectivite du reseau metro parisien est enorme...plus meilleur que ce qui existe dans l'EU bien sur.)

I like practicing French (J'aime pratiquer francais) .
