In my opinion there should be a ratio of spire height to habitable floor height, otherwise we are just going to see more and more tall masts being built.

I think this has little to do with the kind of building we are getting. In China it is demand that drive's the building and it's design. The giant mass thing seems to be good for the middle East because they are building a trophy.
