I'm wondering if it will still be ground loading or if there will be bridges or at least covered walkways to the plane.

Most will still be ground loading but I did see at least one bridge on the renderings. but not on the IFCs.

Tentatively heading to Iqaluit for a few days in June for a work trip. Any must-sees while I'm up there?

Just go for a walk. Head to the Road To Nowhere and walk about a km past the end. sit down and revel in the silence. Get some shots of the Pool and New Air Terminal. If you want Inuit carvings head over to the Museum. usually young artists but they only took cash when I was last there. Head for a hike in Silvia Grinell Park. But really just walk around. If you can get a boat trip down the bay it is worth it.

Talk in local media, possible new Air Terminal coming for Yellowknife. The last addition and Reno had to have been at least 15 years ago.

Not to sound alarmist/paranoid, but is it safe to hike around like that unarmed? I've heard stories (don't know if they're over-sensationalized or not) of climate change driving starving polar bears to the outskirts of settlements where they act very aggressively.

West Hudson Bay is more a concern. All the years I have been going up I have never seen a bear on the land. they are more prevalent along the coast south in the bay. I used to see a lot of Caribou but even those are not as visible now. However if you are concerned check with the locals about any local bear activity.

It's VERY rare to see a polar bear in the vicinity of Iqaluit. I know it's happened, but most of the people I knew when I was up there had never seen one. It would be all over the news if there was a siting.

Canada's most northerly road is on time for next fall opening. Inuvik Tuk highway should be an interesting addition for a summer trip.

Budget is out for Nunavut Infrastructure. Looks like a lot of schools coming to a community near you. Good shot of YFB terminal as well. Fall 2017 completion date. As for the Schools if the design hasn't stared by Dec they will not be on next summers sea lift.

This school was destroyed by fire last night, the only school recreation centre in the community.

Terrible news about the school, and the cost for a replacement seems pretty prohibitive, especially for a territory with so many things on the plate right now.

From reading comments, I've noticed that there quite a few people that oppose the port in Iqaluit. Do you know enough to explain why that may be and say what you personally think?

Haven't been back up for some time now so I do not know the politics. There will be somemore complaints as they are building a break wall to extend the runway lights out another 5-600 meters out into the bay.

The school will be rebuilt but it could be 3-4 years before it is open. They will miss this years sea lift. could have been worse, the generator station fuel tanks were only a few meters away. if the wind blew the opposite way they could have lost the power station.
