NYC MANHATTAN Better late than never 2011

Took these on a brief 10 hour walk through New York over labor day weekend well over a year ago. It wasn't till I went home for the holidays, sitting in front of a warm fire got to uploading old pics.

I realize it touches some more of the touristy areas, so if that isn't your thing, I'll eventually deliver on a ton of Harlem, Bronx and Brooklyn photos I took years ago. Until then:

Madison Square Park; Fifth Ave. & 23rd Street.

Madison Square Park always has rotating art installations, basically varying by season.

The last time New Yorkish scaled midrises were built in Chicago was pretty much the 1920's. But there weren't very many. Just a scatter of them here and there in areas closer to the lake. Since then most development has been in the 1-6 story range or else towers. Anything that's in the 10-15 story range tends to be very stocky looking or built as a complex. We don't have those wall to wall midrise structures on narrow lots that give a fine grain definition to streets. The extremely high value of property in NYC makes units that don't face an open street still very marketable but that wouldn't fly in Chicago where it seems everyone has to have a few of something or over something and thus we get buildings with these bulky podiums
