I dunno... sure it could have been better, but considering what else was being built in Halifax at the time, I don't think Bishop's Landing is so bad.

It's actually quite a vibrant spot on the evenings and weekends, with all the shops and restaurants there. When the Alexander is finished, it will only be more so... so what's the problem??

I don't think it's bad either. It created a decent public realm, a reasonably vibrant retail area, and the quality of the materials/finishes is decent, especially for that era. There is a slight faux-quaint quality to it, but it's not overwhelming.

I wouldn't be very excited to see something similar built today, but in retrospect it turned out fine.

I think it looks great also. I first saw it from the water on a sailboat and it stood out to me as a great looking development.

I guess you guys like vertical-seam metal siding/roofing. It reminds me of that Best Western in Burnside.

The roofing materials are not typically something I would focus on when I'm there, although maybe the guy on Google street view was looking up at the roof just before he fell...

As mentioned before, it's not perfect, I recall it seemed like a step up from the norm when it was built. The ground-level materials and the layout aren't bad, and certainly the level of activity that it has brought to the area is a plus.

So... I don't really see a problem here.

I can't believe I agree with Keith. I like the layout and ambiance that Bishop's has created but I don't like the design or construction materials...concrete block tin roof etc.

The tower is boring as it is just a blown up version of the cheap materials used in the rest of the complex. We can do better but we don't have to.

Cheap materials:

I respect all of the opinions expressed here, but I can't agree that it looks as bad as stated, especially in the context of when it was built.

Just my opinion, of course, and you all know what they say about opinions!

It sure makes the building on the opposite corner look insignificant and rather shabby. Sad thing is that building is not all that old, from the 1990s or early 2000s IIRC. A waste of a prime site.

Not sure about the detailing but the massing looks good.
